ADVENTURE BACKPACK COMPATIBILITY

PACK IT. PORTAL IT. PUT IT AWAY.

Carry the supplies. Build the next shelter. Keep your backpack connected.

Adventure Backpack Compatibility connects AdventureBackpacks with RunicStorage, RunicCrafting and ServersideQoL PortalProgression. Backpack contents can follow world-boss portal rules, Quick Stack into nearby storage, and supply materials for crafting, upgrading and hammer building.

Compatibility / v0.1.8
Built against Valheim 1.0.16 with BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351. Requires AdventureBackpacks 2.2.1, RunicStorage 1.3.12 and ConditionalConfigSync 1.0.9. Install matching helper versions on every client and the server. Optional crafting/building support requires RunicCrafting 1.1.11; portal progression uses the reviewed ServersideQoL PortalProgression 2.0.11 on the server. Exact dependency binaries are checked.

THROUGH THE PORTAL / WORLD PROGRESSION

  • Uses the server's configured PortalProgression item rules and bosses defeated in that world.
  • Allows eligible items inside carried AdventureBackpacks without temporarily moving the contents out of the bag.
  • Keeps unknown items, explicit exclusions and undefeated boss tiers restricted.
  • Waits for the server policy to initialize and synchronize before granting additional backpack permissions.

PortalProgression is optional on clients. Without its supported, enabled server component, this helper grants no extra portal permissions; the Quick Stack feature can still operate. Normal main-inventory PortalProgression behavior, holding distance and notifications remain controlled by that mod. Other portal restrictions still apply.

BACK TO STORAGE / QUICK STACK

Use your existing RunicStorage Quick Stack shortcut with an equipped, closed backpack. This helper adds its matching items to the same storage operation, using RunicStorage's range, destination matching, routing, locks and ownership checks.

Only the equipped backpack is a Quick Stack source. Close its inventory window first. Equipped items, quest items, backpacks and protected items stay in the bag. RunicFoodGuard's protection for food slots in your main inventory remains separate and unchanged.

The RunicStorage single-stack shortcut only moves the selected carried stack; it does not empty your backpack.

There is no new shortcut or storage range setting. The helper saves the changed backpack data and checks the transfer result. If a transfer fails, it attempts to restore that transfer and stops further backpack stacking until restart. Preserve the log before retrying an operation that reported an error.

MAKE IT FROM YOUR BAG / CRAFTING AND BUILDING

With RunicCrafting 1.1.11 installed, your equipped, closed backpack becomes an additional material source for ordinary recipes, equipment upgrades and hammer building. Enable RunicCrafting's CraftFromContainers for recipes and BuildFromContainers for building. AdventureBackpacks' Enable Craft From Backpack setting must also be enabled. Wood inside your bag can then supply a wooden wall without moving it into your main inventory first.

  • Includes bag materials in RunicCrafting's crafting/building checks, requirement display and exact material reservation. Repeated UI refreshes must not count the bag twice.
  • Uses carried inventory, then the equipped bag, then eligible nearby storage according to the existing source priority.
  • Saves bag contents after consumption and after a cancelled material reservation is restored.
  • Keeps existing workbench requirements, access checks, material costs and chest ranges.
  • Does not extend enchanting-table upgrades or station refuelling; those need their own integrations. Unequipped bags are not material sources.

Close the bag window before crafting or building. If a material or persistence check fails, the crafting/building extension stops for that session and logs the error. This is an optional integration; RunicCrafting is not automatically installed. An absent or unreviewed RunicCrafting version skips the crafting/building extension while the other supported features remain available.

INSTALLATION

  1. Close Valheim and stop the server normally before changing plugins. Back up your world and characters.
  2. Install the listed dependencies and this helper on each client and the server.
  3. For backpack portal progression, install ServersideQoL PortalProgression 2.0.11 with its core on the server, enable both, and configure your desired item-to-boss rules there. It is an optional server feature and is not automatically installed by this package.
  4. For crafting/building, install RunicCrafting 1.1.11 and enable the applicable RunicCrafting and AdventureBackpacks settings described above.
  5. Start the server, then join with matching helper versions. Version 0.1.8 is required on every participant; older helper versions will be rejected.

Manual installation: copy plugins/AdventureBackpackCompatibility from the ZIP into BepInEx/plugins. Dependencies are installed separately.

Replacing a manually installed copy? Replace its local mod entry with the published package while the game is closed. Keep your config and only one AdventureBackpackCompatibility.dll. The public package uses the same plugin ID; keep only one installed version.

No new items or world generation are added. Existing backpacks can use the helper. To remove it, close the games and server and remove the helper everywhere; upstream portal, Quick Stack and building behavior returns.

YOUR SETTINGS

The first launch creates BepInEx/config/vercadi.AdventureBackpackCompatibility.cfg:

[General]
Backpack portal progression = true
Quick stack equipped backpack = true
Build from equipped backpack = true
Lock server settings = true

The server controls these settings during multiplayer sessions. Portal and Quick Stack support have separate switches. The legacy-named Build from equipped backpack switch now controls both crafting and building; it is retained so existing configs keep their value.

FIELD NOTES / COMPATIBILITY

Look for ACTIVE: reviewed AdventureBackpacks on startup, SERVER POLICY READY: on the server, and Backpack quick-stack committed: after a successful bag transfer. For the new crafting/building feature, also look for ACTIVE: RunicCrafting 1.1.11 equipped-backpack crafting/building integration.

An INACTIVE message means a dependency or expected method did not match. Update this helper only after the changed dependency has been reviewed. Its manifest dependency list does not prevent your mod manager from installing a later version.

Transfers stop if contents or ownership change unexpectedly. Recovery records preserve uncertain states for investigation; they are not imported automatically.
