Haldor Expansion - Valheim Trader, Relics & Awakened Abilities

Turn trophies into coins. Coins into relics. Relics into legends.

Haldor Expansion (HaldorExpansion) makes Haldor a bigger part of the Valheim adventure: buy rare gear and late-game crafting materials, sell trophies and valuables, collect upgrade idols, and awaken unique powers at the Forge of Possibilities. Or take the risk yourself with a Berserker axe, spectral archers, or Bone Crushers.

A reason to return to Haldor

  • Buy & discover: 13 unique weapons, armor pieces, cloaks and accessories; 31 additional resources and materials, from metal and timber to Refined Eitr, Bloodgold and Ice.
  • Sell your loot: turn regular and boss trophies, rare cores, and upgrade idols into coins. Trading values and progression requirements can be configured.
  • Collect & upgrade: buy and sell 18 kinds of idols; upgrade 12 artifacts beyond quality 10 and awaken powers at a configurable level.
  • Find a fighting style: embrace Berserker Wrath and Ragnarök, master Bone Crushers and Facebreaker, or command Ghosts of the Last Hunt with Hel's Oath and Soul Swap.
  • Make the world yours: adjust shop stock, prices, skills and HUDs; enjoy original Norse-inspired relic lore, English/Russian localization, and multiplayer/dedicated-server support.

Requires BepInEx 5 + Jotunn. Server owners control synchronized balance and shop rules; players can keep local UI and keybinding preferences.

Haldor's expanded shop - buy, sell & progress

More than a gear vendor, Haldor becomes a trading hub for adventurers, builders and collectors. Spend the coins earned on expeditions, stock up on materials, or hunt for idols to improve a favorite relic.

Buy from Haldor: 13 unique equipment artifacts, 31 listed crafting resources/materials, and 18 upgrade idols (16 standard idols plus Haldor Idol and Haldor's Adamantine Idol). Stock can be controlled by world-progression keys, and purchase prices and stack sizes are customizable.

Sell to Haldor: supported creature and boss trophies from Meadows through Deep North, Surtling Cores, Black Cores, Molten Cores and Frost Cores, and all 18 idols. Trophy values vary by enemy; there is a configurable default for other trophies as well.

The shop has six tabs: All / Equipment / Wood / Ores and Metals / Resources / Other. Idols currently appear under Other. Tabs can be customized or disabled to keep the traditional shop layout.

What can be bought? - resources & materials

The buyable resource catalogue covers metal, wood, stone, textiles and magical crafting ingredients. Notable later-game goods include Bloodgold, Timberwood, Ice, Black Metal, Linen Thread, Sap, Refined Eitr and Soft Tissue.

Show all 31 resources and default buy prices

These are prices paid BY THE PLAYER to Haldor, not prices received when selling. Each amount is for the whole stack shown, not necessarily for one item. Full stack means the item's in-game maximum stack size. Server settings and existing user configs may use different prices.

Resources available to buy Default stack Coins per stack
Copper / Tin / Iron / Silver / Flametal 30 each 150 / 150 / 250 / 450 / 1000

Ice Full stack 400

What can be sold? - trophies, cores & idols

Haldor pays for monster trophies, rare boss trophies and Deep North trophies, turning exploration and difficult fights into another way to earn coins. Examples of default prices: Eikthyr Trophy - 350 coins, Yagluth Trophy - 1500 coins, Fader Trophy - 5000 coins. Other configured trophies have their own values; unlisted trophy prefabs use a configurable fallback (10 coins by default).

Rare material sold TO Haldor Default coins per item
Surtling Core 70
Black Core 200
Molten Core 350
Frost Core 550

Idol trading - buy, sell & upgrade

Haldor both sells and buys all 18 idols. All idol prices are per single idol, not per stack.

Idol Buy from Haldor Sell to Haldor
Any of the 16 standard idols 1000 300
Haldor Idol 1000 300
Haldor's Adamantine Idol 4000 2500

Idol availability, world-progression requirements and prices for both buying and selling can be configured independently. Upgrading with the idols is explained below.

Forge of Possibilities - push your relics further

12 of the 13 unique equipment items can be upgraded at the Forge of Possibilities. The Thread of the Norns is excluded.

Upgrade resource Successful attempt Failed attempt
Haldor Idol Quality increases by 1 The item may be destroyed
Haldor's Adamantine Idol Quality increases by 1 Quality decreases by 1, but the item cannot be destroyed

Both idols have the same chance of success. Adamantine failures can never reduce quality below 1, and every attempt consumes one idol - even a failed attempt at quality 1.

Awakening defaults to quality 10 but is configurable in balance.cfg (Forge of Possibilities → Awakening / Пробуждение → Quality threshold). This is not an upgrade cap: all 12 upgradeable artifacts have awakened powers, which remain active while the item meets the configured threshold and other requirements. Dropping below that threshold disables the awakening until the item qualifies again.

Show awakened powers (quality 10+ by default; spoilers)
Artifact Awakened power
Berserker Greataxe Bloody Harvest: Greataxe kills grant 30 Blood Debt
Berserker Helmet Feast of the Fallen: Greataxe kills during Wrath restore 10% of missing health
Berserker Cloak Ragnarök preserves Wrath; Blood Debt consumption and Exhaustion remain
Bone Crushers Normal attacks heal 3% of actual enemy HP lost
Pit King's Mantle With Bone Crushers, Steel Heart barrier bonus rises to +100% and Retribution damage increases accordingly
Hel's Oath Ghosts of the Last Hunt: up to three spectral archers; Soul Swap (E by default) costs one soul and 40% maximum stamina.
Pelt of Helheim +80 maximum stamina, 80% less fall damage
Cuirass of Silent Reckoning While delayed-damage debt is active and HP is at or below 25%, restore 2% of maximum HP per second
Cloak of the Wounded Beast +30 maximum HP and +30 effective Unarmed skill (capped at 100)
Cloak of Burned Resolve 25% slashing damage resistance at the resistance stage
Corrupted Brisingamen Blessing of the Rejected Goddess: +40% stamina regeneration
Crossbow of the Shadow Hunt +60 effective Sneak and +30 effective Crossbows (each capped at 100)

Where to find the idols

Haldor sells both custom idols. The regular Haldor Idol can also drop alongside existing idols without replacing their drops. Haldor's Adamantine Idol has an independent 1% chance per eligible chest by default; the chance is configurable in balance.cfg.

Signature combat mechanics

Berserker - Wrath, Blood Debt & Ragnarök

The Berserker Greataxe, Helmet, and Cloak reward relentless aggression, but surviving your own power is part of the challenge. These pieces complement each other without requiring a particular chest armor or leggings.

  • Bloodthirst: the Greataxe grows more dangerous as you lose health.
  • Wrath I–V: consecutive qualifying hits build up to five stages, increasing attack speed and reducing stamina consumption.
  • Blood Debt: take damage and land Greataxe hits to fuel your most destructive attacks. Track the resource on a dedicated HUD.
  • Reckoning: at Wrath II+ and with enough Blood Debt, use the Greataxe's secondary attack to spend that resource, deal extra damage, and recover health on a successful hit.
  • Ragnarök: with the Greataxe wielded, Cloak equipped, Wrath V, and enough Blood Debt, press E by default to call down 12–30 meteors. The skies darken, the battlefield erupts, and Exhaustion follows.

The Helmet adds Wrath-based protection and healing; the Cloak accelerates Blood Debt generation while increasing incoming damage. The ability thresholds, bonuses, Exhaustion penalties, and Ragnarök key are configurable.

Bone Crushers - Retribution & Facebreaker

The Bone Crushers are aggressive cestus weapons that turn damage suffered into Battle Fervor. At full charge, press the middle mouse button (Mouse2) by default to trigger Retribution, releasing a shockwave and creating a temporary protective barrier.

Facebreaker offers a different kind of control: hold E (default) to aim, then release to pull enemies inward. Targets are slowed for 4 seconds, and enemies pulled from both sides are staggered. The ability features a custom animation, synchronized impact sounds, and a 5-second default cooldown. The key can be reassigned; saved bindings remain unchanged, and interactions take priority when both actions use the same key.

Equip the Pit King's Mantle alongside Bone Crushers to activate Steel Heart, strengthening the barrier and Retribution shockwave.

Hel's Oath - high-risk archery

Trade 50% of maximum health for maximum stamina with Hel's Oath, a bow designed around powerful ranged attacks and careful survival.

With the full Fenris set, bow hits build Hel's Touch through five stages, increasing movement speed and reducing stamina costs. Normal shots also charge Hel's Embrace: when ready, empower the next arrow for a devastating Lightning / Frost explosion. Hel's Touch V strengthens the blast.

Ghosts of the Last Hunt (awakened): successful normal bow hits summon up to three spectral archers. Their arrows echo the wielder's shots for 33% damage, passing through walls and obstacles. The first apparition is a distant Guardian, ready to become a tactical destination for Soul Swap. During Hel's Embrace, each remaining spirit fires an empowered arrow for 50% of the ability's damage before disappearing. Ghost attacks do not charge abilities.

Soul Swap: press E (default) to sacrifice a materialized ghost and teleport to its position. It costs one soul and 40% of maximum stamina, with no cooldown. The key is configurable; movement such as jumping or rolling does not prevent the swap. Without fresh hits, ghosts begin fading after 30 seconds and lose one soul every 10 seconds.

Complete the setup with the Pelt of Helheim to gain Very Resistant to Pierce while all synergy conditions are active.

Other ways to survive - or gamble with death

  • Thread of the Norns: a one-use trinket that sacrifices itself to save you from a lethal hit.
  • Cuirass of Silent Reckoning: delays part of dangerous damage, buying time without removing the consequences.
  • Cloak of the Wounded Beast: stronger healing when badly wounded, at the cost of increased incoming damage.
  • Cloak of Burned Resolve: redirects part of incoming damage into stamina, with a severe penalty if stamina runs out.
  • Corrupted Brisingamen: increases carrying capacity.
  • Crossbow of the Shadow Hunt: devastating opening shots with a mobility trade-off.

Default buy prices are shown below and can be changed in trading.yml.

Legends and item descriptions

The relics are more than their stats. 12 equipment artifacts and both Haldor idols carry Norse-inspired stories, with connections that attentive players can discover for themselves. Shop previews emphasize the legends; inventory tooltips also provide mechanical details.

The Crossbow of the Shadow Hunt retains a conventional description pending its future redesign.

Optional, screen-friendly tooltips. Long artifact descriptions fit within the screen and support scrolling with the mouse wheel or Page Up / Page Down. Prefer another tooltip or UI mod? You can disable Haldor Expansion's scrolling feature in the configuration and keep your preferred interface.

Configuration & multiplayer

Haldor Expansion automatically generates three configuration files:

BepInEx/config/aveasura-HaldorExpansion/
├── general.cfg # Shop UI and local preferences
├── balance.cfg # Combat balance, abilities and idol drop chance
└── trading.yml # Inventory, prices, sell values and progression

Detailed configuration guide: Want to customize Haldor's shop, item prices, boss progression requirements, awakening levels, or combat balance? See the GitHub README for configuration examples covering general.cfg, balance.cfg, trading.yml, and boss progression keys.

Interaction priority: when a skill and Valheim interaction share a key, available interactions (chests, doors, pickups, and more) take precedence. Facebreaker and Soul Swap default to E for new configurations; existing customized bindings are preserved.

Awakening threshold: the default is quality 10, configurable in balance.cfg and via supported F1 settings.

Live reloading applies valid edits without restarting the game (default check interval: 3 seconds). BepInEx ConfigurationManager is optional and lets you edit supported settings in-game using F1.

For multiplayer and dedicated servers, install the same version on the server and every client's game. The server is authoritative for synchronized combat balance, shop prices, stock, and progression settings. Local control preferences and shop-tab visibility remain client-configurable. The mod uses NetworkCompatibility(EveryoneMustHaveMod, Minor).

If upgrading from 1.2.x, the mod attempts to migrate existing settings and backs up the previous configuration. Existing customized prices may differ from the defaults shown here.

UI compatibility: Scrollable item tooltips can be enabled or disabled under Compatibility → Enable long item tooltips in general.cfg or through ConfigurationManager (F1). The setting is client-side, so every player can choose their preferred tooltip experience independently.

Installation

Required: BepInEx 5 and Jotunn. A compatible mod manager can install these dependencies automatically.

For a manual installation, place HaldorExpansion.dll in:

BepInEx/plugins/aveasura-HaldorExpansion/

Item icons are embedded in the DLL; no separate PNG files are needed.

Compatibility & optional mods

Haldor Expansion has previously been used in local and dedicated-server environments alongside mods such as:

  • Smoothbrain-CreatureLevelAndLootControl
  • warpalicious-Monster_Modifiers
  • ASharpPen-Custom_Raids
  • Azumatt-AzuExtendedPlayerInventory
  • Azumatt-AzuSkillTweaks
  • rendl0449-CraftFromContainers
  • Advize-PlantEverything
  • Marf-FuelEternal
  • ...

These are not required dependencies. Compatibility depends on the installed versions; earlier testing does not guarantee every mod combination will work with 1.3.3.

Valheim / Deep North: The 1.3.3 release is intended for the same supported game branch; actual compatibility depends on the installed Valheim and dependency versions.
