BoneSpire
Bone-storing monuments with inventory-driven growth and expandable protection against hostile spawns.Bone Spire
Build towering bone-covered monuments that store Bone Fragments and protect the surrounding area from hostile spawns.
The spires
| Greater Bone Spire | Lesser Bone Spire | |
|---|---|---|
| Build cost | 100 Bone Fragments + 10 Core Wood | 20 Bone Fragments + 1 Core Wood |
| Inventory | 8 columns × 4 rows | 3 columns × 2 rows |
| Capacity | 1,600 Bone Fragments | 300 Bone Fragments |
| Height | Approximately 20m | Starts at 4m; extends to 8m and 12m |
| Protection | 10m when empty, increasing to 100m when full | Adds up to 5m to each Greater Spire within 100m |
Capacities assume the standard 50-fragment stack size. Mods that change stack sizes also change capacity and growth thresholds.
Both spires accept only Bone Fragments. Construction materials do not count toward inventory fill. Stored bones can be withdrawn, reversing growth and reducing protection.
The Greater fills from its broad base upward, covering a slender Core Wood framework with a mixture of skulls and other bones. Its upper framework remains exposed until enough bones are stored.
The Lesser begins as a bare 4m pole. Long bones accumulate in staggered arrangements, accompanied by fitted lashings. Another 4m pole appears when the covering approaches three-quarters of the current section. Different placed Lessers have consistent variations in their bone arrangements. Both spires use native Core Wood meshes and materials with slimmer proportions.
Area protection
A Greater Spire's own radius grows linearly from 10m to 100m. Half capacity provides 55m before Lesser bonuses.
Each Lesser within the Greater's fixed 100m horizontal linking range contributes in proportion to its stored bones:
| Lesser fill | Added radius |
|---|---|
| 25% | 1.25m |
| 50% | 2.5m |
| 100% | 5m |
Every stored fragment contributes. Each Lesser's bonus is capped at 5m, including when excess items are retained from an earlier version. There is no combined bonus cap. A Lesser can contribute to multiple Greaters within range, but provides no independent protection.
Expanded protection does not extend the linking range. An empty Greater retains its 10m base radius and can receive Lesser bonuses. Depositing or withdrawing bones updates the current protection radius.
Equip the Hammer to see nearby Greaters' protection boundaries projected onto the ground. While placing a spire, an amber ring marks the fixed 100m linking range. Where the boundaries coincide, only the protection ring appears. Hover text displays the current protection and Lesser bonus.
Protection blocks natural hostile spawns and raid attackers whose spawn locations fall inside the radius. Ordinary neutral wildlife and Dvergr are unaffected. Existing enemies can still enter, and raids can still begin or spawn outside the boundary.
Boss summoning, physical creature spawners, console commands, and custom spawning systems from other mods are outside this protection.
Installation
Install Bone Spire through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman, then launch Valheim through the manager. BepInExPack Valheim and Jotunn are required and listed as package dependencies.
Both spires appear in the Hammer's Misc category / Storage tags. Discover Bone Fragments and Core Wood and have a workbench nearby to build them.
Updating
Update through your mod manager and restart Valheim. Existing spires receive the new appearance and inventory dimensions automatically.
Stored items are retained. Inventories with more stacks than the new grid can hold temporarily keep extra rows. Withdraw excess stacks to finish resizing. Additional deposits are disabled while those recovery rows are needed. The new capacity determines growth and protection, with excess bones counting as full capacity.
Artwork exports
Build-menu thumbnails are rendered from the assembled spire models. When graphics are available, Bone Spire also exports both 256×256 thumbnails and a complete Thunderstore ZIP using the Greater's thumbnail to BepInEx/config/BoneSpire. These files are generated automatically; no manual icon replacement is required.
Compatibility
Early-access release for single-player Valheim. Multiplayer compatibility is not verified.
Empty and dismantle placed spires before removing the mod from a world you intend to keep.
