LoxWagon
Turn Haldor's merchant wagon into a functional lox-drawn expedition wagon with 32-slot storage, articulated four-wheel handling, visible cargo loads, a lox-hide cover, and three passenger seats.LoxWagon
Turn Haldor's merchant wagon into a buildable, lox-drawn cargo wagon. Hitch it to a tamed lox, climb into the saddle, and take your supplies across Valheim.
Features
- 32 inventory slots in an 8 × 4 cargo hold.
- 1,200 maximum health, with normal repair and dismantling.
- An articulated four-wheel chassis with front steering and pitch movement for uneven terrain.
- Wide shafts with attachment controls accessible along either shaft.
- Crates and barrels that appear as the inventory fills, topped by a lox-hide cover at full load.
- Three passenger seats: two facing forward and one facing backward.
- A righting interaction for overturned wagons.
- Configurable cargo weight, empty wagon mass, player pulling and optional flotation.
0.8.3 is a stable singleplayer release. Travel, storage, seats, rollover recovery and flotation have been confirmed in testing. Multiplayer remains under testing.
Installation
Install LoxWagon through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Required dependencies install automatically:
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351
- Jötunn 2.30.2
For manual installation, install those dependencies, then place LoxWagon.dll in Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/. Keep only one copy of the DLL installed.
Launch the game once to generate BepInEx/config/greypoint.loxwagon.cfg.
Build recipe
Select Wagon in the Hammer build menu. No crafting station is required.
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Fine Wood | 80 |
| Core Wood | 30 |
| Iron Nails | 80 |
| Barrel Hoops | 4 |
| Lox Pelts | 16 |
| Linen Thread | 8 |
Construction materials are recoverable through normal dismantling.
Hitching and riding
- Bring a tamed lox to the front of the wagon.
- Aim at either wooden shaft or the central hitch and press Use to attach the nearby lox.
- Mount the lox using its normal saddle and ride to pull the wagon.
- Use either shaft or the central hitch again to detach.
Access the cargo hold from the wagon body. Move closer if the interaction asks you to. Passengers can use either front bench seat or the rear-facing seat.
Cargo and weight
Cargo appearance follows the number of occupied inventory slots, regardless of item type. The full load and lox-hide cover appear at 31–32 occupied slots. Cargo visuals do not add weight themselves.
Handling depends on the inventory's total item weight:
Total mass = BaseChassisMass + inventory weight × CargoMassScale
With the defaults, 1,000 inventory weight adds 300 mass to the empty wagon's 65, for a total of 365. Heavier loads are harder to pull; lowering CargoMassScale reduces their effect without changing storage capacity.
Righting an overturned wagon
When the wagon is tipped far enough, aim at its body, wheels or an interaction point and follow the Right wagon prompt. Use the game's alternate-place modifier with Use, normally Left Shift + E.
Detach the puller, stop the wagon and have passengers dismount first. Stand clear of the space the upright wagon and shafts will occupy. Recovery requires reasonably level, solid ground and enough room; a blocked attempt displays the reason. Righting preserves cargo and damage and leaves the wagon detached.
Configuration
Edit BepInEx/config/greypoint.loxwagon.cfg while the game is closed:
[Wagon]
AllowHumanPulling = false
BaseChassisMass = 65
CargoMassScale = 0.30
FloatOnWater = true
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
AllowHumanPulling |
false |
Uses player pulling instead of lox hitching when enabled. |
BaseChassisMass |
65 |
Empty wagon mass. Supported range: 30–200. |
CargoMassScale |
0.30 |
Mass added per unit of inventory weight. Supported range: 0–1. |
FloatOnWater |
true |
Enables water buoyancy. |
Restart the game after changing settings. Updates preserve existing configuration values, so an older cargo scale stays in effect until you change it. New settings are added automatically on startup.
Flotation
Flotation is enabled by default with FloatOnWater = true. The intended waterline sits around the lower cargo bed, as if the hold were a boat hull, with the wheels and axles underwater. Buoyancy accounts for cargo mass. The wagon has no boat propulsion or sailing controls.
Set FloatOnWater = false and restart to disable buoyancy and let the wagon sink. Existing configurations retain their saved value: if upgrading from 0.8.2 with flotation disabled, change it to true to enable it. Righting requires solid ground beneath its destination.
Multiplayer and compatibility
Install the same mod version on the server and every client, with matching configuration settings. Multiplayer testing is ongoing, particularly hitch ownership changes, reconnects and seat occupancy.
BeastsOfBurden and HUDCompass are optional. LoxWagon includes compatibility handling for these mods, but does not require either one.
Known limitations
- Cargo collision follows simplified shapes; small gaps and fur edges are not exact collision surfaces.
- Extreme slopes and uneven obstacles can still tip the wagon. Recovery may require moving away from obstacles or onto better footing.
- Visible wheel rotation is not animated.
- Multiplayer remains under testing.
Updating
Update through your mod manager, or replace the existing DLL for a manual installation. Existing wagons and inventories remain in the save. Restart all multiplayer participants after updating.
See CHANGELOG.md for release changes. Source code and validation tools are included in the package.
