README

Overview

DISCLAIMER: All changes are disabled by default, you need to enable each item's changes in the config files which generate the first time you run the mod.

The purpose of this mod is to add some level of scaling to (what I believe are) under performing items that don't really scale with the player. At least that's what it used to be, now I sorta just change things that I think are underwhelming or never hear anything positive about it.

Configs are provided for those that wish to tweak or disable most changes made by this mod. The default configurations are set within the context of vanilla Risk of Rain 2, so I greatly encourage you to tweak them to better fit whatever balancing mods you're using.

Common

Antler Shield

Rework

- Increases armor by 5 (+5 per stack) and movement speed by 7% (+7% per stack).
NotesHelps alleviate the need for movement speed that has been left by SotS and makes it a defensive counterpart to Mocha. Also the retaliation effect wasn't that great and Razorwire already does a great job.

Bison Steak

Buff

- Gives 10 (+10 per stack) max health.
- Each level gives an additional 3 (+3 per stack) max health.

Rework

- Killing an enemy increases base health regeneration by +1 hp/s for 3s (+3s per stack).
- The effect stacks and kills extend the duration of existing stacks by 1 second.
- Health regen scales with level.
NotesBison Steak's lack of scaling makes it ineffective as a defensive item and holds it back from worthwhile synergies. We've corrected this by making it scale with level. The rework is designed to be a remake of its older version, Fresh Meat.

Knockback Fin

Buff

- Effect is now guaranteed on hit, the cooldown has been extended.
- Can affected bosses with reduced effect.
- Can affected airborne targets, pushing them down.
- When a launched target lands they cause a 12m radius impact that deals 100% (+10% per stack) of the attacker's base damage.
- The impact damage scales with the target's velocity.
NotesMostly experimental changes to see if we can keep the knockback without the item being a detriment at worst and dubious at best.

Topaz Brooch

Buff

- Gives 8 plus 2% (+2% per stack) of the user's maximum health as barrier.
NotesThis is to make the item more viable without needing excessive stacking or a Forgive Me Please, it also matches Monster Tooth numbers which is fair since both have a trade-off.

Roll of Pennies

Rework

- Gain 3 gold when hit, scaling over time and by the hit's proc coefficient.
- Whenever you collect gold you gain a +5 armor buff.
- The armor buff's duration is 2s (+2s per stack) plus the gold's value.
NotesKeeps its ability to gain quick money but makes it less exploitable and no longer the primary effect.

Uncommon

Chronobauble

Buff

- Also reduces attack speed by 30%.
NotesThis has been added since it's a fairly common change among many balancing mods, also helps give it an edge against its void counterpart.

Death Mark

Buff

- Applies death mark on every hit for 6 (+4 per stack) seconds, scaling with proc coefficient.
- Marked targets take 10% more damage for each debuff they have up to 50%.
NotesMakes the effect less binary while also allowing players to tune the numbers for modded setups where debuffs are easier to apply.

Hunter's Harpoon

Buff

- Buff lasts for 1 (+1 per stack) seconds, instead of 1 (+0.5 per stack) seconds.
- Kills extend the duration if you already have the buff.
- Reduces the cooldown of your Secondary skill by 1 second on kill.
NotesMost of these changes mimic its RoRR version. It also reduces Secondary skill cooldown on kill so it's a bit more at a single stack.

Ignition Tank

Rework

- Has a 10% chance to burn for 240% base damage on hit.
- Dealing 10 hits of damage with DoTs will cause an explosion.
- The explosion has a radius of 12m (+2.4m per stack) and deals 300% (+200% per stack) total damage.
- The explosion has a proc coefficient of 0 and uses Sweet Spot falloff.
NotesIgnition Tank is infamous for being a hard synergy item, so we're broadening its usage to damage over time in general. The explosion is primarily for boosting the single-target damage of DoTs with the extra AoE being a bonus and extra flavour.

Infusion

Buff

- Increases level instead of health.
- Minions inherit the samples you've collected, but still need to have infusions to benefit.
- Elites and Bosses give more samples.
NotesWith the changes to Bison Steak this is now redundant so we're broadening its effect.

Leeching Seed

Buff

- Hits heal 2 (+2 per stack) health with 50% of it being affected by proc coefficient. (Basically Withor's LeechingSeedBuff)

Rework

- Heals 1 (+1 per stack) health when dealing damage with a DoT.
- Attacks have a 20% chance to apply a non-stacking DoT called "Leech" for 5s.
- Anyone that deals damage to a target with Leech will heal for 100% of the damage dealt, scaling down with their base damage stat.
NotesLeeching Seed is often compared to Harvester's Scythe and in most cases the latter is considered better. Both these changes are designed to give it a use case that Harvester's Scythe doesn't share.

Lepton Daisy

Buff

- Releases the healing nova every 10 seconds during Holdout events, instead of being a limited amount based on the team's stack count.
- The nova heals 10% (+5% per stack) of the target's maximum health.
NotesLepton Daisy suffers from being unreliable or a dead item half the time. This makes it shine in the situations it can actually be used.

Old War Stealthkit

- Cooldown now stacks similar to Genesis loop. (This is a nerf.)
- Has its own unique buff called "Stealthed" instead of sharing with Bandit's Smokebomb.
- Stealthed increases movement speed by 40% and gives 100 fading armor.
- Upon activation, you are forced out of "Danger" for 1 second.
- Upon activation, removes all damage over time effects.
- Upon activation, it causes a stunning smoke bomb.
NotesThese changes reinforce its role as a disengagement tool.

Squid Polyp

Buff

- Squid Turrets last 25 (+5 per stack) seconds.
- Squid Turrets have 100% (+20% per stack) health.
- Squid Turrets apply tar with their attack.
- The amount of Squid Turrets each player can have is reduced, however newer turrets will replace older ones.
NotesImproves the value of stacking Squid Polyps and also reduces the clutter they can make.

Unstable Transmitter

Rework

- Gives a Strike Drone similar to how Spare Drone Parts gives Col. Droneman.
- Teleports allies that the user owns every 30s to them.
- When an ally teleports this way they explode on arrival for 350% (+280% per stack) base damage in a 16m radius.
- The explosion is owned by the item holder and uses their base damage.
- The cooldown between teleports is reduced for each ally on your team.
- If an enemy is near the owner the ally will teleport on them.
NotesThe original effect is disorienting with dubious usefulness that barely inches out its downsides. This change moves the teleporting shenanigans to your minions and doubles as a budget egocentrism build while keeping your minions close to you.

War Horn

Buff

- Now gives +60% (+15% per stack) attack speed, instead of 70% attack speed.
- Duration lasts 6 (+3 per stack) seconds, instead of 8 (+4 per stack) seconds.
NotesWar Horn is pretty good for a green item but once you have full uptime further stacks don't mean much. This change makes getting extra less of a dead item.

Wax Quail

Buff

- Jump boost has been removed from natural air jumps. (Mercenary's double jump for example)
- Jump boost strength is now 12m (+8m per stack), hyperbolically capping at 120m instead of 10m (+10m per stack) with no cap.
- Jump boost also gives a 20% boost to vertical jump height.
- Gives +12% (+8% per stack), hyperbolically capping at 120% movement speed while airborne.
NotesWax Quail can be annoying to use at even just 10 stacks, these changes make stacking more valuable without ruining movement as quickly.

Legendary

Aegis

Buff

- Excess health regen now counts towards barrier gain.
- Increases maximum barrier by 100% (+100% per stack).
- Converts excess healing/regen at a rate of 100% instead of 50% (+50% per stack).
NotesNow has the maximum barrier increase from RoRR. It also counts excess regen to match Rejuvenation Rack and to make it slightly less situational.

Ben's Raincoat

Buff

- Prevents 2 (+1 per stack) debuffs, instead of 1 (+1 per stack).
- There's also a 0.25s grace period after a stack is consumed where you still block debuffs but don't consume stacks.
- Cooldown now begins when a debuff is blocked instead of when all stacks of the block is consumed.
- Cooldown now lasts 7 seconds, instead of 5 seconds.
NotesBen's Raincoat's rework in 1.2.3 is more thematically fitting but the nerf left it in a bad spot. The biggest offender is that the cooldown only starts when all stacks of its buff is exhausted which makes the value of stacking poor and unreliable, it also has the problem of stacks being easily depleted in some situations which further ruins its value. All changes made here address these issues.

Happiest Mask

Rework

- You summon a ghost of yourself that lasts 30s.
- The ghost has 300% (+200% per stack) damage.
- Any kills or deaths the ghost achieves are credited as your kills.
- You can only have 1 ghost at a time and it does not copy your items.
NotesHappiest Mask is both underwhelming and performance intensive, which is exactly what you don't want in your Legendary item. This change reduces the amount of ghosts and makes the ghost itself much more valuable and disposable than the original item.

Laser Scope

Buff

- Gives +5% critical strike chance on the first stack.
NotesThis is to keep consistent with other crit items.

Sonorous Whispers

- Each stage it spawns a Gilded boss monster with stat scaling similar to Alloy Worship Unit.
- Killing this monster will drop 1 (+1 per stack) of its yellow item.
- Killing this monster will drop 200 (+100) per stack gold.
- The monster can attack other enemies, and also deals an extra 200% (+100%) per stack damage to them.
NotesI personally dislike items that get you more items and the DLC has made it difficult for me to ignore it. Sonorous Whipser is a large offender since it exists in the Legendary pool. This change limits the amount of items it can give per stage and focuses on getting exclusively boss items since they can be difficult to obtain.

Symbiotic Scorpion

Rework

- Damage over time deals +2% damage per 1% health the enemy is missing.
- Every 5s Envenom an enemy within 13m for 600% (+600% per stack) base damage.
NotesWhile its effectiveness is debatable, it's true that there's an overlap with Shattering Justice. We're moving it to a DoT focused Legendary item since the game actually doesn't have one (likely for good reason).

Yellow/Boss

Defense Nucleus

Shared Changes

- The projectile that spawns the construct will now replace and kill excess constructs instead of spawning nothing.
- Alpha Construct Ally are now flagged as Mechanical, meaning they're affected by Spare Drone Parts and Captain's passive.

Buff

- Removed "Elite" requirement for kills.
- Limited to 4 Alpha Constructs at all times.
- Constructs have 200% (+100% per stack) health.
- Constructs have 100% (+50% per stack) damage.

Rework

- Activates when using equipment.
- Summons 3 Alpha Constructs on activation.
- Forms a Xi Construct projectile shield on activation for 5s (+2s per stack).
- Constructs have 200% (+100% per stack) health.
- Constructs have 100% (+50% per stack) damage.
NotesThis item isn't all that great when considering the requirement to proc and the fact that the stacking doesn't work well. These two options should hopefully make the item exciting to find.

Planula

Buff

- Heal from incoming damage for 10 (+10 per stack) plus an additional 2% (+2% per stack) of maximum health.

Rework

- While in combat, all enemies within 15m are burned for 400% (+300% per stack) base damage.
NotesWhile the effect is neat the lack of scaling plus how late it appears makes it a let down compared to the uncommon items a teleporter could've given instead.

Titanic Knurl

Buff

- Health and Regen increase are boosted with level.
NotesBecause Bison Steak was buffed like this it only makes sense for Titanic Knurl to get the same buff.

Rework

- Every 6 seconds (+25% cooldown rate per stack) a Stone Fist attacks an enemy within 60 metres for 800% (+600% per stack) damage.
NotesWhile Titanic Knurl isn't bad it's effect is boring compared to other boss items. This rework is made to mimic the Stone Titan's Stone Fist ability, which should make it feel more like a boss item than before.

Void

Lost Seer's Lenses

Rework

- Has a 0.5% (+0.5% per stack) chance to detain an enemy on hit for 5000% base damage.
NotesAfter many runs I've found Lost Seer's Lenses to be unenjoyable due to it doing nothing against bosses and completely removing regular enemies, I've yet to see any mods that change this so I'm trying my hand at it.

Voidsent Flame

Buff

- Detonates on the user's first hit against an enemy, instead of at 100% or more health.
- Minions do not inherit it.
NotesThe method to proc this item is unusual for what it is, this change makes it more reasonable especially in a multiplayer scenario.

Newly Hatched Zoea

Rework

- Activating your Special skill will launch a swarm of missiles that deal 300% (+75% per stack) base damage each.
- The swarm contains 12 (+4 per stack) missiles that get reloaded over 30 seconds.
NotesNewly Hatched Zoea is pretty underwhelming for how late it can be obtained. This rework moves it away from being a minion item and gives it the stacking potential of Shurikens, making it fairly strong by the time it's avaliable.

Known Issues

  • For some extra notes about mod compatibility check the "Wiki" tab.

  • Due to the dedicated server software not being updated, it's difficult to test how these changes work in multiplayer.

  • The air speed bonus from Wax Quails remains for a single tick when landing, this means if you "Bunny Hop" the jump boost is strengthened by the air speed bonus.

  • Knockback Fin's proc sound is global, this is a vanilla game issue.

  • Infusion's level increase does not affect Prayer Beads, not sure if this can be considered a bug or not.

- Sonorous Whispers Rework:
- Actually fixed monster selection, whoops.

- Sonorous Whispers Rework:
- Added "Reward Limit" configuration, limits the amount of item rewards the monster can drop. Also caps other stacking effects when reaching this limit. (Default: 200)
- Added "Base Gold" and "Stack Gold" configurations, makes the monster give scaling gold upon defeat, I mean it is made of gold. (Default: 200, 100)
- Fixed "Base Rewards" and "Stack Rewards" configurations having no affect on item reward amounts.
- Now uses the Run's RNG when selecting the monster to spawn.
- Changed how the monster is selected to reduce repetition.

1.23.1

- Sonorous Whispers Rework:
- Fixed up item tags.

- Symbiotic Scorpion Rework:
- AI Blacklisted for real this time, this time.

1.23.0

- Configs:
- Seperated item configs for each tier, it was getting difficult to look through.

- Artifact of Spite:
- Changes moved to a new mod.

- Added a rework to Sonorous Whispers.

- Leeching Seed Rework:
- Healing from the Leech debuff is now scaled from the attacker's expected damage stat at level rather than their damage stat.
^ Just means having damage stat increases from items will actually increase the healing, for example Shaped Glass will now increase the healing previously it did not.

- Lepton Daisy:
- Removed the hyperbolic stacking calculations and made it linear.
^ Felt needlessly complicated, plus it's okay for some items to reach hard limits.
- Changed "Stack Healing" default configuration. (10 -> 5)

- Unstable Transmitter Rework:
- Added configuration "Respawn Minion", setting it to false makes the Strike Drone not respawn until the user respawns, like how Spare Drone Parts and Col. Droneman work. (Default: False)
- Finally wrote a nicer note about it in the README.

1.22.5

- Antler Shield:
- Changed "Stack Armor" default configuration. (7.5 -> 5)
^ 7.5 armor is almost the same effective amount of health from a Personal Shield Generator.

- Death Mark:
- Fixed config category name.
- Changed "Base Duration" default configuration. (7 -> 6)
- Changed "Stack Duration" default configuration. (7 -> 4)
- Duration is now scaled by proc coefficient, and can no longer proc on yourself.

- Old War Stealthkit:
- Removed "Cancel Combat" configuration.
^ Never felt that impactful and this is designed to allow you to escape combat situations anyway.
- Added a stunning area of effect similar to Bandit's Smoke Bomb when activating.
- Description now mentions that it cleanses damage over time.

- Symbiotic Scorpion Rework:
- AI Blacklisted for real this time.

1.22.4

NotesDeath Mark Rework has been changed completely and the fix to expired pings has been moved to a seperate mod. Most changes made are balancing related with a focus on being more consistent with the game, doing all this as the idea of the mod being complete is within sight, but still a while away.
- Knockback Fin:
- Fixed certain flying enemies not going on cooldown once they have stable velocity, such as Flying Pests and Alloy Vultures.
- Made velocity based damage more consistent and the damage cap much more realistic to achieve.

- Death Mark Rework:
- Scrapped since the ping system can be quite frustrating at times.
- Changed to be closer to how Death Mark works but less binary and can be tweaked to work better with modded setups.
- Is now classed as a buff instead of a rework.

- Ignition Tank Rework:
- Added a configuration to make the proc requirement chance based like it was originally. (Default: 0, Originally: 10)

- Leeching Seed Rework:
- Added a configuration to make the healing from DoTs scale with the tick rate of said DoT. (It was doing this already by default)
- Changed "Base DoT Healing" default configuration. (4 -> 1)
- Changed "Stack DoT Healing" default configuration. (4 -> 1)
^ A tick rate of 4 is used as the baseline for DoT scaling so the healing amount is unchanged with these values.
- Changed "Leech Base Damage" default configuration. (0.5 -> 2.5) (Unchanged technically)
- Replaced "Leech Stack Duration" with "Leech Stack Damage" configuration.
^ This is done to be consistent with how other items increase their DoT damage.
- Healing from the Leech debuff is now scaled from the attacker's damage stat rather than with time.
- Changed "Leech Life Steal" default configuration. (0.1 -> 1)
- Removed "Leech Minimum Life Steal", now always in effect at a value of 1.

- Unstable Transmitter Rework:
- Changed "Cap Cooldown" default configuration. (2 -> 1) (I thought this would be annoying to hear constantly but it's not.)
- Changed "Base Radius" default configuration. (15 -> 16)

- Symbiotic Scorpion Rework:
- Changed "Slayer DoT Base Damage" default configuration. (1 -> 2)
^ Originally at 1 for balance reasons, but decided to set it to 2 so it's consistent with actual Slayer damage.
- Changed "Venom Base Damage" default configuration. (8 -> 6)
- Changed "Venom Stack Damage" default configuration. (8 -> 6)
- Removed Monster specific interaction, is now AI Blacklisted by default.

- Titanic Knurl Rework:
- Changed "Stack Cooldown" default configuration. (0.15 -> 0.25)

1.22.3

- Defense Nucleus Shared:
- Summon projectiles will only impact against the world now.

- Defense Nucleus Rework:
- Configuration "Summon Count" is now capped at 8 instead of 6 because I said so.

- Bison Steak Rework
- Topaz Brooch
- Hunters Harpoon
- Infusion
- Defense Nucleus Buff (Disabled by default)

- Bison Steak:
- Item description now states that the health amount increases with level to avoid confusion.

- Knockback Fin:
- Renamed "Distance Damage" configuration to "Velocity Damage" to properly reflect what it does.
- Removed "Add Fall Damage" configuration, replaced with "Credit Fall Damage", simply credits fall damage the target takes while launched instead of adding it to the impact.
- This means "Credit Fall Damage" will work even while Impact damage is disabled.
- Will no longer proc when hitting yourself.

- Topaz Brooch:
- Changed "Base Flat Barrier" default configuration. (15 -> 8)
- Changed "Stack Flat Barrier" default configuration. (15 -> 0)
- Changed "Base Percent Barrier" default configuration. (0.005 -> 0.02)
- Changed "Stack Percent Barrier" default configuration. (0.005 -> 0.02)

- Leeching Seed:
- Changed "Proc Healing" and "Base Healing" default configurations. (0.75 -> 1)

1.22.1

- Knockback Fin:
- specified in the config description of "Base Radius" that it disables the Impact damage when set to 0.
- Fixed the knockback only working once when the Impact damage was disabled.

- Unstable Transmitter Rework:
- Allies now get 1s of invincibility upon teleporting.
- Added configurations "Teleport Radius" and "Telefrag Radius" to control the range of ally teleports.
- Added configuration "Ally Owns Damage", allows the explosion to be owned by the ally that teleported instead of the item holder.
- Added configuration "Proc Coefficient", controls the Proc Coefficient of the blast.
- Added configuration "Proc Bands", controls if the blast can proc bands or not.

1.22.0

- Antler Shield Rework:
- Properly marked as a rework in the config.

- Knockback Fin:
- Damage now scales from the target's velocity so it makes more sense with higher stacks against airborne targets.
- Now counts as a debuff only while launched, the cooldown afterwards is not a debuff.
- Added an experimental option that moves all the target's fall damage to the impact damage, added configuration "Add Fall Damage" to enable this behaviour.

- Added a rework for Unstable Transmitter.

- Squid Polyp:
- Fixed Squids not spawning from interacting with Chests, has been broken since Devotion Update.

- Aegis:
- Changed "Base Overheal" default configuration. (0.5 -> 1)
- Changed "Stack Overheal" default configuration. (0.5 -> 0)
- Changed "Base Max Barrier" default configuration. (0.25 -> 1)
- Changed "Stack Max Barrier" default configuration. (0.25 -> 1)

1.21.1

- Knockback Fin:
- Added "Flying Force Mult" configuration, a knockback multiplier against flying enemies.
- Removed "Small Force Mult", "Medium Force Mult" and "Large Force Mult" configurations as I misunderstood how the original effect was coded.

1.21.0

- Updated to work with Seekers of the Storm, still needs more thorough testing.
- Fully uses R2API ContentManagement instead of partially.

- Changed "Stack Damage" default configuration. (1.5 -> 2)

1.20.4

- Symbiotic Scorpion Rework:
- Fixed an error caused by DoTs inflicted by non-character bodies.

- Defense Nucleus:
- Item is not longer copied by Turrets.

- Item is not longer copied by Turrets.

1.20.2

- Newly Hatched Zoea Rework:
- Changed when in the code corruption changes are made to better prevent other mods ignoring changes made.

- Leeching Seed Rework:
- Changed the description to state "Damage over time" instead of "Status damage" for consistency.

- Defense Nucleus:
- Removed "Cooldown" configuration, pretty sure it wasn't being used in the first place.
- The cooldown for summoning Constructs is now 0.5s but goes up to 7s if it suspects you'll cap out.

- Changed "Shield Stack Duration" default configuration. (1 -> 2)

- Updated dependancies.

1.20.1

- Ignition Tank Rework:
- Hits are now tracked per enemy.

- Defense Nucleus:
- Improved in-game description slightly.

- Defense Nucleus Rework:
- Fixed the shield not deploying.
- Improved in-game description slightly.

1.20.0

- Added basic error handling for IL changes, be warned if something does break it'll be much less obvious now, but should be easier to debug.

- General Config:
- Added "Tweak Barrier Decay" configuration, adjusts base barrier decay to use Max Health+Shield instead of Max Barrier, this is primarily for Aegis changes.

- Bison Steak:
- Changed "Base HP" default configuration. (20 -> 10)
- Changed "Level HP" default configuration. (2 -> 3)
- Default values have been changed to scale the same as player health.

- Changed "Stack Armor" default configuration. (0 -> 1)
- Changed "Base Armor Duration" default configuration. (1 -> 2)

- Hunter's Harpoon:
- Buff doesn't have a fading effect, is now a full buff for the entire duration.
- Buff doesn't increase skill cooldown rate, instead it reduces skill cooldown by a flat amount of seconds on kill.
- Changed "Base Duration" default configuration. (1.5 -> 1)
- Changed "Stack Duration" default configuration. (0.75 -> 1)
- Changed "Movement Speed Bonus" default configuration. (0.25 -> 1.25)

- Old War Stealthkit:
- Stealth is now given as 5 stacks that expire one after another, similar to Hunter's Harpoon.
- Combat and Danger cancels are now only applied while you have 5 stacks of Stealth or more.
- Removed configuration "Cancel Duration" as a result of the above changes.
- Added configuration "Stealth Movement Speed", controls the movement speed bonus from being Stealthed. Default: (0.4)
- Added configuration "Stealth Armor", controls how much armor each stack of Stealth gives. Default: (20)

- Squid Polyp:
- Squid Turret base damage increased from 4 to 5, matching drone damage scaling.
- The knockback on Squid Turret shots now scales down with attack speed, should stop them from pushing everything away at higher stacks.
- Added "Stack Health" configuration, controls how much extra health Squid Turrets get per stack. Default: (2)
- Added "Base Duration" configuration, controls the duration of Squid Turrets at a single stack. Default: (25)
- Changed "Stack Duration" default configuration. (3 -> 5)

- Removed "Stack Armor" configuration.

- Aegis:
