08. Bolt Action Rifles

Single-Shot Bolt Actions

These bolt action rifles have no internal magazine, so they only accept one round in the chamber. Unlike the earlier needle rifles, these cock the striker automatically when the bolt is opened. Mostly used by rear-echelon troops.

Tube-Fed Bolt Actions

The first magazine system added to bolt-action rifles is the tube magazine, seen commonly on lever-action rifles and pump-action shotguns. While this allowed rifles to carry more ammunition, this system is not ideal as it prevents the use of stripper clips for faster reloading. Mostly used by rear-echelon troops.

Straight-Pull Bolt Actions

Straight-Pull rifles operate differently from turn-bolt rifles in that the action only needs to move backwards and then forwards. While this requires fewer movements, the bolt operation isn't as smooth as turn-bolts.

Turn-Bolt En-Bloc Bolt-Actions

En-Blocs are a style of clip that is inserted in its entirety into the rifle. The clip is ejected once it has been emptied.

Turn-Bolt Internal Mag Bolt-Actions

Rifles with internal magazines can be reloaded quickly with the help of stripper clips; a clip is mounted on top of the open action, then rounds are squeezed off the clip into the magazine. The clip is removed and the action is closed.

Turn-Bolt Internal Mag Bolt-Actions

Bolt Action rifles with detachable magazines can be reloaded even faster than internal magazines and can potentially hold even more rounds. That said, they sometimes are compatible with stripper clips as well.
