Most grenade launchers took the form of rifle grenades meant to be fired out of the commonly used infantry rifles; these dedicated grenade launchers were used as ad-hoc anti-vehicle weapons.

Mortars continued to be useful, though they had to adapt to the aggressive maneuver style warfare of WWII over the static trench warfare of WWI.

Rocket Launchers
When Anti-Tank rifles stopped being useful against tanks, Rocket Launchers were developed to replace them. Even then, many of the larger tanks could only be defeated by hitting them in the sides or rear.
