README

Mike's Moons Pack.

Hodge podge list of map mods for adding more variety to the interiors and exteriors that your group can explore. This pack will be infrequently updated with new map mods as they are released, most of these suck, see below for further info.

.

This pack has a lot of broken and unstable map mods!

I spent a decent amount of time in singleplayer checking each map for bugs/GBJs/bad collision/poor design/etc, however I did not test each possible weather condition. ordered roughly in accordance with how much I would recommend playing on each one:

S Tier:

  • Kast: This one is awesome, while the spawns are absolutely brutal on the interior, it recognizes that the exterior should be safe until sundown. The fire exit seems accessible but it's a trick as you cannot immediately head there to avoid using the main entrance. While the map is small it is interestingly designed with a few paths that split off and meet back up together for verticality to enable evading threats more strategically.
  • Peach's Castle: This map is an absolute classic, while I disagree with the choice of sandy dust clouds I quite enjoy the little details like the hidden Toad by the waterfall and the Shoutouts to Simpleflips sign on the roof. The main entrance is exactly where you would expect, and the fire exit is in a good spot that isn't hard to find even for somebody unfamiliar with Super Mario 64's castle exterior.
  • Minecraft Taiga: Another really well done map, the stairs are clipped so you walk up them smoothly. The map has a nostalgic charm to it, reminding me of playing old Minecraft maps on Source games like TF2, Gmod, Portal, and CS. Entrances are on par with vanilla moons in terms of difficulty to find your way to or from.

A Tier:

  • This tier is currently empty, I would consider this to be for moons that are on par with vanilla in terms of quality and enjoyability but not much further above that.

B Tier:

  • Ducky: When the ship is leaving there is a hill that you pass through, however the map is otherwise interesting conceptually and an art pass could do it some good.
  • Secret Lab: The overworld from SCP: Secret Lab, the entrances are in the expected places, the door between MTF and Chaos spawns is open by default although much narrower than the original. The winding canopied path beside MTF spawn is gone and walled off with a non-functional door, of which there are a confusing amount to players unfamiliar with the game this map is replicating. The Warhead Room appears to be intended to be a fire exit however in my testing it did not work.
  • Wateridge: A fun little map that appears mostly fleshed out, however the doors are untextured and the map is extremely small with some immersion breaking geometry around the edges where the island meets the sea. Interact with the bonfire for a fun surprise if you like silly stuff. This map is default to the LethalExpansion mod that enables all of the new moons being added lately so I hope to see it developed further to be on par with vanilla moons and high quality modded moons as time goes on, alternatively being removed and made into a separate mod would be good, as at current the dev is shipping unnecessary content in a mod that should be a library.

C Tier:

  • Orion: This was one of the earliest custom moons and has seen a lot of changes and overhauls, I personally believe the environment is too large and barren, and could benefit from either being shrunk or having an art pass done. Nothing in it is broken though, and it is a fine enough experience, just not as impressive visually as others. It does suffer from an issue where the dust clouds exist indoors that I personally dislike, but for all I know it may be intended.
  • Christmas: This map is disgustingly huge, in stark contrast to the other mod that ships with LethalExpansion, Wateridge. I found the trek to the entrance to be entirely not worth it, however it has custom christmas themed scrap items that have high values and low weights which should make the trip back to the ship quicker than if you were overencumbered by the heavy loot of other maps. I also am uncertain on the existence of fire exits as I could not locate any inside or outside of the building, this poses an issue for players using the Mimics mod if true as all doors will be obvious fakes. There is also the issue of weather inside the building, the custom snow effect seems to exist ever so slightly indoors. As with Wateridge I would hope to see this map reworked and developed until it is on par with vanilla moons, or placed into a standalone mod.

F Tier:

  • Nuketown: This one is an outright not recommended, enemies spawn outdoors from the moment the ship lands and Masked are included in the spawntables, borderline unplayable. I also found an issue where fire exits were not linked properly, and entering one then immediately exiting brought me to the other side of the map.
  • EGypt: I could not even find the entrance on this map, and while searching for it I clipped through the floor and softlocked myself. Hopefully this map will see more updates and improvements in the future as I would love to see this concept developed to parity with the quality of vanilla moons.
  • Dust2: Monsters spawn immediately, before even finding a facility entrance I was eaten by a forest giant which are borderline unavoidable in this map, given it was initially designed to force interactions between opposing teams in a competitive shooter. While this is a gimmick moon like Nuketown it is a shame to see it is even less playable, hope to see future updates that improve on it.
  • Dafi's: All the moons added by Dafi are unfortunately very low quality and low effort, after testing a few the pattern became clear, these were the first ones I tested and a ghost girl had spawned and begun targeting me immediately upon arriving on the first moon, far from recommend unless the mod maker dedicates to making the quality match the quantity.
  • Aquatis: No blame can be placed on the dev for the flaws this map has at current, it is still quite new and in development, however I will still criticize it regardless. The map spawns monsters immediately, and multiplied by the absolutely tiny size of the map this makes it so that it's a challenge to even approach the entrance. I could not even check for fire exits as I was hounded by baboon hawks. The facility itself also has an unclear entrance in general, you have to go around the wrecked ship to a ladder that stands out heavily against it's extremely low poly model, which I find doesn't look like it's meant to be interacted with. Then on the ship itself there is a door that blends in a bit. I found Orion to be a fine enough map so here's hoping the developer polishes this to at least that one's quality.

Interiors:

As well as the mods I have included that add new moons to explore, there are two mods that add new interiors, one adds an SCP: Secret Labs inspired interior and the other adds a dungeon/crypt style interior. I recommend using the configs since the default settings for these moons are not great, I also have seen no evidence that they can even generate on modded moons naturally, however I didn't test very thoroughly.
