Adds over 450 custom building pieces with a space-and-galaxy theme! Add black holes, quasars, shattered planets, prismatic lights, hyper-light tunnels, gravity wells, teleport beacons, custom skies, distant stars, and so much more!
All of Coga Cosmos' pieces are crafted with great respect and inspiration to Valheim's own style, to make these pieces fit seamlessly into your world.
Cosmos tab examples
- Cosmos Move (first entry): select it and click a Cosmos piece to pick it up and move it. See Building below.
- Planet lamps: Terra, Gas Giant, Moon, Ember, Frost, Ocean, Dune and Toxic, each in normal, Large and Giant sizes.
- Orrery and Grand Orrery, and Binary Worlds.
- Bright Sun: a distant sun, a white-gold glowing ball in layers of light with turning corona rays. Lights up its surroundings.

Cosmos Utility tab examples
Pieces that have a function, such as teleporting or linking things together.
- Light Beacon: a crystal pedestal with a pillar of light. Press
Eto travel to the next beacon of the same color within range.- Shift+E lets you change its name (beacons are visited in name order). Each color is its own network. Everything can travel, ores included. You arrive on the small glowing ring in front of the beacon.
- Hyperlight Tunnel: a 4 m tube of light you walk through. Running in the direction of the fleeting light makes you run faster.
Shift + /makes a placed tunnel shorter or longer.
- Gravity Well: a 12 m beam of low gravity. Float up like in water;
Jumprises faster,Crouchsinks, and you steer freely. No fall damage for a moment after you leave. - Slowfall Well: a 12 m column of nullified gravity. Inside it you fall slowly, like wearing a feather cape; Crouch drops at normal speed.
- Clearlight Beam: clears the Mistlands mist around it, like a Wisp light (it uses the game's own mist clearing).
- Warmth Beam: a floating core of warm energy sending out waves of heat. Functions exactly as a fire.
- Launch Pad: stand on it and jump about five times higher, with no fall damage for a few seconds after.
- Launch Ramp: run and jump off of it and it throws you in an arc the way it faces. Stand near it to see a dotted line to project where you will land. No fall damage, and you float down the last few meters.
- Laser Link: a crystal node that draws lasers to other nodes of its color within 30 m. Each one you place links to the last one you placed, so a few in a row draw a path; hold Shift while placing to start a new path. You can manually create paths with
E. - Searchlight: a crystal lamp sweeping a long cone of light. Its color spills onto the ground around it as it sweeps.
- Polychrome: a crystal prism that puts on a light show. Twelve beams and nineteen club and cosmic scenes, cycling on their own and crossfading between them: Spectrum Sweep, Mirror Ball, Scanner (which locks onto the nearest player within 30 m), Chase, Lighthouse (two beams sweeping the horizon), Laser Grid, Aurora, Heartbeat, Twin Rotors, Spiral Galaxy, Sunrise, Color Pop, Fireworks, Pendulum Wave, Breathing Prism, Nebula Wash, Starburst (beams in every direction), Crown (a ring of beams round the horizon) and Bloom (beams that open up like a flower and close again). The prism turns to steer the light, wearing a crown of rainbow crystal shards. Hover it to see what is playing. Press
Eto lock it to the scene you like (Alt + Egoes back), and press it until it says Auto to let it cycle again. - World Map Table: a glowing map of the world you are in, even the parts nobody has explored, with a marker where it is placed.
- Walk up to it and it turns into your map: land you haven't explored yet is dimmed, and your map pins show as dots (portals purple, beds warm, everything else cream). Aim at a dot to read its name.

Cosmos Observatory tab
Twelve skies each: Rose Nebula, Teal Nebula, Gold Nebula, Gaseous Clouds, Aurora, Black Starfield, Galaxy Core (a spiral galaxy overhead whose glow breathes), Milky Way, Twilight (a warm glowing horizon), Star Nursery (two nebulae mixing, with drifting dust), Cosmic Storm (lightning flashes) and Deep Field (distant galaxies). Inside a dome the sky slowly wheels overhead, and some skies have shooting stars.
- Sky Dome (small 8 m, normal 16 m, large 24 m): a building with wood and stone walls with a glowing oculus, a black marble floor, and open sky inside. The Sky Dome can be filled with custom sky layers to create beautiful otherworldly skylines in your own little haven.
- Biome Domes (Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands, Ocean, Deep North): the stone dome as a view of that biome. Its horizon sits at eye level all the way round, with layered hills, forests, peaks, spires or open sea fading into the distance, and its ground runs from the real grass around the marble floor out to it.
Ctrl+Eswitches its floor between that marble circle with grass around it and marble all the way to the wall. Its weather drifts inside, and it follows the time of day: warm at sunrise and sunset, dark with stars at night. - Stone Dome: just the building, with a slate vault inside and no sky, for your own stack of sky layers. Become as creative as you can be with this blank slate!
- Open Dome: the stone dome with no roof. Walls, doorway and marble floor, with the real sky overhead.
- Astronomical Clock: a working 24-hour clock whose sun hand shows the real time of day; hover it for the day and time.
- Great Telescope: a 6 m bronze-and-iron refractor on a stone pier, with a stool behind it. E sits you down and you look through it: the mouse aims it,
scrollzooms in up to about 7x, andEstands you back up. When nobody's using it, it slowly sweeps the sky.
Dome Controls
/makes it 2 m narrower or wider (6 to 40 m across). It's rebuilt at the new size, so the walls and doorway stay the same and only the floor and roof change.- Placing or resizing flattens the ground under it, with a soft slope out to the land around, and clears the grass. Removing it puts the ground back how it was.
Eallows you to change the weather inside andShift+Enames it.- The weather panel also lets several weathers take turns, keeps it day or night inside, and picks the sound.
- Inside a roofed dome the outside stays outside: no sun through the roof, no wind, and no outside rain or snow falling in.
- Sky layers aimed inside will automatically fit themselves to it (see below). Removing the dome will remove itself and all attached layers.
Observatory Sky Dome Examples
All sky overlays are individual. Mix and match however you like!
Cosmos Sky tabs
Build your own sky out of layers you stack, one tab per kind: Cosmos Sky Planets, Cosmos Sky Layers and Cosmos Sky Clouds. They're walk-through and only visible from the inside, so you can put them over your own builds to give your base the perfect skyline! They rotate with the world and are nearly indistinguishable from the real world!
- Planetary Dome (outermost): just the distant worlds, with no background, so they hang in whatever sky you pick. Ringed Giant, Twin Moons, Rising World, Planet Parade.
- Sky Dome Layer (middle): mostly clear overhead and thicker toward the horizon, so the planets still show. Day, Night, Twilight, Sunset, Sunrise, Full Moon, Starry Night, Aurora Night, Eclipse, Storm Sky, Golden Hour, Blue Hour, Pastel Dawn, Overcast, Ashen Sky, Polar Twilight, Blood Moon, Deep Space.
- Cloud Dome (innermost): drifting clouds, about half see-through. Fair Weather, Cirrus, Storm Clouds, Sunset Clouds, Fog Bank, Mackerel Sky, Rain Veil, Aurora Veil, Nebula Clouds, Golden Hour, Rainbow Clouds, Prism Wisps, Rainbow, Double Rainbow, Cotton Candy, Lenticular, Mammatus, Thunderhead, Noctilucent, Ash Clouds.
- Day and night skies: press
Eon any placed layer to give it a night partner such as Golden Hour by day and Blood Moon by night. The two fade into each other slowly at dawn and dusk with the real time of day (Alt+Egoes back through the list). If the dome or Sky Region is set to always day, dusk or night, its layers just follow that instead.
Three ways to use them:
- In a dome: aim a layer anywhere inside a dome and it automatically connects to the middle, sized to sit just inside the roof. Planets, sky and clouds nest inside each other on their own. Each one gets its own handle on a ring at chest height, so they don't pile up. Press
\on the dome or a layer to link the stack: then/on a layer resizes them all together. A layer fitted into a dome covers the whole room, running down the walls to the floor and up over the roof with the doorway left open, so its clouds, rainbows, stars and planets carry on all the way down. It works in every dome, and a layer placed off-center with Shift still belongs to its dome. - Over your base: pick Sky Outline (first on the Sky Layers tab) and click points on the ground around your base; click the gold first point to close it (
Backspaceundoes a point, middle click cancels). Then place a Sky Region anywhere inside the outline: a small stone post that keeps the shape and shows it to everyone as a gold line while the hammer is out. Sky layers aimed inside the region take its shape: clear low down so you still see the world, closing into sky overhead./on the post raises or lowers all of them, and removing the post removes them too. - On their own: they place at 16 m across and resize with
/(the hover shows the size in meters). HoldShiftwhile placing to place one freely instead of fitting it.

Custom Weather and Named Places
Every dome and every Sky Region can have its own weather and its own custom name.
- Outline your weather zone (it could be your base, a garden, anything!) using the Sky Outline piece just like in the previous section. Once you connect the first piece to the last piece, a bubble will form and that will be your custom weather zone! Then, place the Sky Region piece anywhere inside the perimeter so that you can access the controls.
- E cycles the weather inside: Shelter, Eternal Night, Snow Globe, Gentle Rain, Mist, Ember Glow, and from the Deep North, Aurora Night, Polar Snow, Blizzard and Mörkhalla. Then the boss fights and dungeons: Eikthyr's Storm, The Elder's Gloom, Bonemass Miasma, Moder's Gale, Yagluth's Ruin, The Queen's Hive, Fader's Blaze, Deep North Lair, Burial Chamber, Sunken Crypt, Frost Cave, Infested Mine, Haunted and Dark Woods, with their light, fog, sound and music but no lightning and nothing that can hurt you.
- Walk in and the weather changes for you; walk out and the real weather comes back. None of them make you wet, cold or freezing.
- Everyone can see your bubble from outside too: snow, rain, embers, mist or sparkles fall and drift only inside the shape, and a Sky Region gets a soft haze along its edge. The heavier weathers tint the whole bubble.
- Snow settles. Snow Globe, Blizzard and Polar Snow slowly cover the ground, floors and roofs inside with snow and deep snow: the more has piled up, the slower you wade, just like the Deep North. Switch the weather off and it melts away. It never changes the real ground, so there is nothing to clean up. It's your own personal reality!
Shift+Eto change its name. Walking in shows the name big on screen with the discovery sound—like reaching a new biome—and it replaces the biome name at the top of your minimap while you are inside. Named places show up on your map while you are nearby.- New in 0.8.0, the weather panel:
Eon a dome or a Sky Region opens a panel instead of cycling:- Click a weather to switch to it right away.
- Tick two or more and they take turns, each for 5, 10, 20, 30 or 60 minutes.
- Light: you can have it follow the real world, or keep it always day, always dusk or always night inside. Only the light changes: the real clock, monster spawns and day/night stay the same as outside.
- Sound: keep the weather's own sound, pick silence, or pick the ambience of any Valheim weather (Black Forest, Swamp, Mistlands, Frost Cave, Deep North calm...)
- Walking in and out now fades the weather over a few seconds, and you have to step a little past the edge before it switches back, so walking along the line doesn't have a jarring flicker.
Your custom weather bubble bypasses ALL outside weather effects, even boss zones!

Building
-
Costs use vanilla materials: marble pieces take Black Marble and Crystal, planets take Surtling Cores and Greydwarf Eyes, starlight takes Greydwarf Eyes and Crystal, plants take Thistle, Blue Mushrooms, Resin or Finewood with Crystal, and brass fixtures add Bronze. A piece shows up in the hammer once you have found every material it needs. Whoever hosts can make everything cheaper, pricier or free with
Costs.CostMultiplier. -
Placing: a piece stands where you aim. Floating pieces (lamps, stars, nebulae, suns) rest on the surface instead of sinking into it: on top of the ground, under a ceiling, off a wall. Hold Left Shift to place exactly where you aim. While placing an item, you will see it as a fixed hologram. Once you place it—if an animations is present—it will begin to play its glow, rotation, or burst!
-
Resize: aim at a Cosmos piece and press
[to shrink it or]to grow it. The size is saved and is updated for everyone on your server to see! However big a piece gets, its handle (what you aim at to remove, resize or move it) keeps its size and place, so a giant nebula does not get in the way of building around it. -
See what you're about to remove: with the hammer out, handles are outlined (faint cyan) and named, and whatever a middle click would delete gets a gold outline and its name on screen. No more accidentally deleting something else because you couldn't find the anchor!
-
Move: pick Cosmos Move (the first entry on the Cosmos hammer tab) and left-click a Cosmos piece to pick it up, or press T while aiming at one with the hammer. It follows your crosshair at its current size, on the ground, on floors or under ceilings. While carrying it:
- Scroll (or , and .) turns it 15°.
- Shift + scroll (or Page Up / Page Down) raises or lowers it 0.25 m.
- Arrow keys nudge it 0.1 m for exact placement.
- Ctrl makes any step fine (1°, 0.02 m, 0.025 m), and holding a key repeats it.
- If you use the Gizmo mod, it pauses while you carry a piece, so the two never fight over the scroll wheel.
- Left click puts it down. Backspace puts it back where it was. While Cosmos Move is selected, clicking never places anything.
You can't put a piece down inside someone else's ward, and everyone sees it move.
Moving a dome takes its sky layers along, puts the ground back how it was where it stood, and flattens the ground at its new spot. Its weather, snow and particles follow it.
-
Comfort: Cosmos decor (lamps, stars, nebulae, flora, domes, sky layers) counts toward the Rested buff: +1 comfort in total, however many pieces you have nearby, like a banner. Whoever hosts can turn it off with
Comfort.CosmosDecor.
Install
Every player and the server will need it. If the server does not have it, the Cosmos tabs are hidden: nothing can be placed and lost, and you can still join that server. If the server runs an older version, only the pieces it has are shown, so newer pieces cannot be placed there and lost either.
- Players: install it with Gale, r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager. Jötunn is installed with it.
- Dedicated server: install it the same way, or copy
plugins\CogaCosmos.dllinto the server'sBepInEx\plugins\folder and restart the server. Its log should showCoga Cosmos 0.8.1 loaded (headless server: tiny textures).
Settings
The config file is BepInEx\config\com.c0ga.cosmos.cfg. Settings marked server are set by the server (or whoever hosts) and apply to everyone. Most rates and utility options are configurable in the .cfg.
About this mod
- No asset files. Planets, stars, nebulae, runes and their textures are generated by code when the game starts. The glowing marble pieces use Valheim's own black-marble pieces and materials, read from the game at runtime. No game files or other mods' assets are included in this package.
- Networking. Game and building pieces' states are seen and synced by all logged-in players. When you join, the game asks the server whether it has this mod, and the server answers with the list of Cosmos piece names it has (so a newer client never places a piece an older server would delete). Beyond that, everything goes through Valheim's normal world data: piece sizes, dome sizes, beacon names, place names, weather, laser links and sky shapes are saved with the world like any other piece state. The server settings above are synced from the server through Jötunn. Nothing is sent anywhere outside the game.
- Compatibility. Four small Harmony patches on the game:
- A prefix on
Player.UpdatePlacementthat only pauses while you are carrying a Cosmos piece in move mode (or have Cosmos Move or Sky Outline selected), so the hammer does not also place, turn or remove. - A postfix on
Player.UpdatePlacementGhostthat lifts a floating Cosmos piece's preview off the surface you aim at, and fits sky layers into domes and regions. It never touches other pieces, snapped placements, or placements with Left Shift held. - A prefix on
GameCamera.UpdateCamerathat only does anything while you're sitting at a Great Telescope: it puts the camera at the telescope's lens instead of behind you. - A postfix on
Player.PieceRayTestthat lets placement aim pass through Cosmos handles (the invisible boxes you aim at to remove or resize a piece), so a new piece lands on the floor or wall behind them instead of jumping up onto a handle. Removing still aims at handles as before.
- A prefix on
*SOME SKY & WEATHER DOME EFFECTS MAY NOT WORK CORRECTLY WITH PlanBuild and/or Infinity Hammer.
*If the Gizmo mod or equivalent is installed, its placement hook pauses while you carry a piece. Hammer removal is plain vanilla. Otherwise vanilla and other mods run as normal.
Light Sensitivity
NOTICES
FOR THOSE SENSITIVE TO FLASHING LIGHTS:
*Some pieces have bright and flashing effects. If you want or need it lessened, turn on Accessibility.CalmLights (it only affects your game). That turns off the storm lightning, dims the supernova and beacon flashes, and slows Polychrome's pulsing scenes to a gentle fade.
Enjoy, space lovers!
