SingleBerserkir
Wield a single Berserkir axe with a shield. Adds fast one-handed combat and Bleeding, Primal and Thundering upgrades. Unmodded observers see a vanilla axe; custom items require the mod on clients and server.Single Berserkir
One axe. A free hand.
Love the Berserkir axes, but miss having a shield? Single Berserkir brings that Ashlands weapon into one hand, with fast axe swings and the familiar gem upgrade paths.
Forge a single Berserkir axe using the same station and materials as the original pair. Keep its native weapon stats, then choose Bleeding, Primal or Thundering using the corresponding gem recipe. Each conversion uses your single Berserkir axe in place of the original pair.
WHAT YOU GET
- A one-handed Berserkir axe that leaves your other hand free for a shield.
- Bleeding, Primal and Thundering variants with their original weapon effects.
- Native Berserkir meshes and materials, reused directly from your game at runtime.
- A three-hit one-handed axe combo and an overhead secondary chop.
- Swings set to 25% faster than normal one-handed axe animations by default, adjustable in the configuration.
- The original crafting station, station requirements, material costs and quality upgrade costs for each weapon.
- The corresponding original weapon's damage, damage scaling, durability, stamina costs, weight and blocking stats.
The original dual axes remain available. This mod adds separate weapons; it does not replace them.
CRAFTING AND UPGRADES
Craft the base axe at the Black Forge. Recipes follow Valheim's normal discovery rules, so pick up the necessary materials if the recipe has not appeared yet. In the tested game version, the base axe requires Black Forge level 3 and the gem variants require level 4.
Upgrade with Bloodstone for Bleeding, Jade for Primal or Iolite for Thundering. The recipes are copied from the installed game's original recipes, keeping the material and station requirements aligned with that version of Valheim.
COMBAT
This is a one-handed alternative with the original weapon stats, not an exact reproduction of dual-wield DPS. The animations, combo length, secondary sweep and attack timing change to suit a single axe. You gain the freedom to carry a shield alongside it.
MULTIPLAYER
Players running Single Berserkir 0.1.1 see the custom axe and its correct gem variant. Players without the mod see a vanilla blackmetal axe when you hold or sheath it, so you no longer appear empty-handed. That equipment-visibility fallback has been confirmed working in a player test.
Unmodded observers do not see the Thundering axe's attached electrical glow on their blackmetal fallback. Its on-hit chain lightning still uses Valheim's native networked effect and is expected to be visible to them; this specific effect needs a live mixed-client check.
The fallback covers equipped appearance only. Custom dropped items, storage and item transfers still require the mod. Install it on the dedicated server and on clients that will use or handle the custom items.
INSTALLATION
Requires BepInExPack_Valheim. No Jotunn dependency. Install with a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager, or follow the manual instructions below.
Close Valheim and extract the download into the game directory, placing SingleBerserkir.dll in BepInEx/plugins/SingleBerserkir. When updating, replace the existing DLL rather than keeping two copies.
After the first launch, adjust Combat > AttackSpeed in BepInEx/config/au.tyvalheim.singleberserkir.cfg. The default is 1.25; supported values are 1 to 2. Keep settings consistent across clients and server. Automatic configuration synchronization is not included.
NOTES
Inventory icons currently reuse the original paired-axe icons. The item names identify the single-handed versions.
Remove custom axes from characters, containers and the world before uninstalling. Keep the mod installed when loading saves that contain these items.
