EquipmentSlots
Equipment slots (head, back, chest, accessory, legs), a quiver with arrow slots and a food bag with food slots.Equipment Slots
Dedicated equipment slots, a Quiver and a Food bag for Valheim, so armor, arrows and food stop filling your inventory.
Part of Nathan's Norse Niceties, a group of small, independent Valheim QoL mods.
What it does
Equipment panel
A panel next to the inventory with one slot each for Head, Back (capes), Chest, Accessory (Megingjord, Wishbone, Wisplight), Legs, Trinket, Quiver and Food bag.
- Armor in the panel is really equipped, counts towards your weight and can be repaired.
- Equipping works with the normal equip delay and animation: drag an item onto its slot, right-click it, or shift-click it. Taking it off works the same way (drag out, right-click or shift-click in the panel).
- On death, worn items go into your tombstone with everything else, and jump back into their slots when you pick it up.
Quiver
Crafted at a level 2 workbench from 15 Leather Scraps, 10 Deer Hide and 5 Troll Hide. While it sits in the quiver slot it adds three arrow-only slots under your inventory.
- Bows shoot from the quiver first. Right-click a stack or press LeftAlt + 1 / 2 / 3 to choose the arrows.
- An arrow display next to the food display shows the three stacks and their hotkeys.
- The arrows stay inside the quiver item, also when you drop it or lose it.
Food bag
Crafted at a workbench from 5 Leather Scraps. While it sits in the food bag slot it adds three food-only slots under the inventory (right side).
- Eat the food in the slots with Z / V / B (configurable). The keys are shown next to the food display.
Install
Requires BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn.
- Download the latest zip from the Releases page.
- In r2modman: select your profile, then Settings → Import local mod and choose the zip. r2modman installs the dependencies for you.
- Start the game from that profile.
Configuration
The config file nathan.qol.equipmentslots.cfg is created in the profile's BepInEx/config folder after the first start. Saved values override the defaults of newer versions, so delete a line to get its default back.
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
EatFoodSlot1 / 2 / 3 |
Z / V / B | Hotkeys to eat the food in food bag slot 1-3 |
EquipmentPanelOffsetX |
150 | Distance of the equipment panel from the inventory's right edge (UI pixels) |
EquipmentPanelOffsetY |
0 | Distance of the equipment panel below the inventory's top edge |
ArrowHudOffsetX |
12 | Gap between the guardian power display and the arrow display |
FoodKeyHudOffsetX |
40 | Distance of the food hotkey labels to the left of the food display |
Compatibility
- Saves, important: the contents of the equipment slots and the bags are stored in the character's save data. If you play the character without this mod, everything in the slots is gone from the game. Move your items back into your inventory before removing the mod. Back up your saves before trying it on a character you care about.
- Multiplayer: the mod works on your own character and does not need to be installed on the server. It is not enforced by the server's mod check. Armor in the slots is equipped the normal way, so other players see it. Quivers and food bags only exist for players who have the mod.
- Other mods: do not combine it with other mods that add equipment or quick slots or change the inventory screen (for example EquipmentAndQuickSlots or backpack mods). Mods that only add items or change stats should work.
- World modifiers: the death rules "keep inventory" and "keep equipment" are respected: nothing drops in that case.
- Game version: developed and tested on Valheim 1.0.x (BepInExPack_Valheim 5.4.2351, Jotunn 2.30.2). After big game updates it may need a new release.
Known limitations
- The quiver icon and model are based on concept art; the food bag model is a simple placeholder.
- Only tested on Linux, in single-player and on a server without the mod.
Building from source
Needs the .NET SDK 8.0 or newer and a local Valheim install (the game's DLLs are not part of this repo).
- Install r2modman, create a dev profile (e.g.
NathansQol-Dev) and install BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn into it. - Clone and configure:
git clone [email protected]:nathans-norse-niceties/equipment-slots-mod.git cd equipment-slots-mod cp Directory.Build.props.example Directory.Build.props.user # then edit ValheimDir and ProfileDir dotnet buildcompiles the plugin and copies it into the profile'sBepInEx/plugins/.scripts/backup-saves.shbacks up your characters and worlds before testing.scripts/package.sh [version]builds a Release and writes an r2modman/Thunderstore-style zip todist/. Zips of other versions are kept.
Commit messages
This repo uses Conventional Commits: feat: (new feature), fix: (bug fix), docs:, refactor:, chore: and so on, optionally with a scope (fix(bags): ...). A ! after the type (feat!:) or a BREAKING CHANGE: line marks a breaking change, for example one that breaks existing saves or configs.
Set up once per clone:
pip install commitizen
git config core.hooksPath .githooks # rejects commit messages in the wrong format
cz commit helps writing a message interactively.
Making a release
The version is derived from the commits since the last tag: fix bumps the patch version, feat the minor version, and a breaking change the minor version while below 1.0.0 (the major version afterwards).
cz bumppicks the version, updatesPluginVersionandDirectory.Build.props, adds the entry topackaging/EquipmentSlots/CHANGELOG.md, commits and tagsv<version>.scripts/package.shbuilds the zip for that version indist/.git push origin main --follow-tags- Create a GitLab release for the tag and attach the zip.
