Mistlands No Bugs

Give the Mistlands a friendlier face. This visual mod replaces five creatures with rounded blue and teal models, big eyes, soft armor and glowing details.

The creatures still have stylized insect shapes. They keep their original movement, attacks and danger: this mod changes their appearance, not their AI, damage, hitboxes or encounters.

The creatures

  • Seeker: rounded shell, bright eyes and glowing wing details.
  • Seeker Brood: a small, wide-eyed version of the Seeker.
  • Seeker Soldier: heavier rounded armor and a visible glowing rear weak spot.
  • Tick: a round body, eight padded legs and small blunt mouthparts.
  • The Queen: a crowned design with gold accents and rounded limbs.

All five use the game's existing skeletons and animations. Their normal game scale is preserved.

Install with a mod manager

Install MistlandsNoBugs and its required BepInExPack_Valheim dependency, then launch Valheim through your mod manager. Jotunn is not required.

Install it on each player's client that should display these visuals. It does not synchronize appearances or require installation on a dedicated server.

Manual installation

  1. Install BepInExPack_Valheim using its instructions.
  2. Close Valheim.
  3. Copy this ZIP's BepInEx/plugins/MistlandsNoBugs folder into your game's BepInEx/plugins folder.
  4. Launch the game with BepInEx enabled.

Keep only one installed copy of MistlandsNoBugs.dll. If moving from an earlier manual or test installation to a mod manager, remove that earlier DLL first.

Configuration

After the first launch, settings appear in:

BepInEx/config/local.mistlands.nobugvisuals.cfg

Close the game before editing and restart it after changes. All five new models are enabled by default.

Section Setting Effect
General Enabled Set to false to disable the mod.
Creatures ReplaceSeeker, ReplaceBrood, ReplaceSoldier, ReplaceTick, ReplaceQueen Set an individual option to false to retain that creature's original appearance.
Appearance CuteSeeker, CuteBrood, CuteSoldier, CuteTick, CuteQueen Set to false to use the earlier crystal construct replacement for that creature.
General ReplaceDeathVisuals Best-effort replacement of recognized death effects and ragdolls; enabled by default.
Creatures ReplaceGjall Optional earlier construct replacement for Gjall; disabled by default.

Scale and AnimateConstructs affect the earlier construct replacements, not the five new models using native animation.

Early release notes

  • Seeker, Brood and Soldier have been tested in game on Windows.
  • Tick and Queen are new in 0.5.0. Their model and animation checks passed in development; in-game validation is still pending.
  • Death and ragdoll replacements currently use the earlier geometric constructs. Coverage of death effects is incomplete.
  • If a future game update changes a skeleton, the mod may fall back to a crystal construct and write a warning to the BepInEx log.
  • Compatibility with other mods that replace these creatures' renderers has not been verified. Linux and macOS have not been tested.

For troubleshooting, check BepInEx/LogOutput.log for entries mentioning Mistlands No Bugs. Disable or remove this mod to return to the original creature visuals.

The mod's code and replacement geometry were created with AI assistance. The models were authored procedurally in Blender. Native game skeletons and animations are reused at runtime; original game models and animation files are not included in this package.
