PetManeater
Tame the Maneater: feed it, hold it, rock it quiet outside. Then whistle it into a monster that fights for you, carry it, park it in a dog house, take it to the next moon. Host-authoritative; everyone in the lobby needs it.Changelog
1.0.1
- A pet on the ship cannot be hurt. Nothing lands on a pet that is aboard, in the dog house or riding in a carrier — explosions, turrets, lightning, other creatures, FairAI's quicksand and a stray shovel swing are all refused, as is anything else that tries to kill it. In the baby form that also closes the worst case: a hit used to add most of a growth meter, so two of them turned somebody's pet into the monster while its owner was down the stairs.
- A pet on the ship cannot go missing. Who is coming with the ship is decided the instant the ship starts to climb instead of a second and a half later, when it is already overhead and every pet that was standing in it reads as outdoors — which is how pets left safely at home were being recorded as left behind and deleted. A pet held in somebody's arms is counted correctly too; the creature's AI stays where it was picked up while the thing you carry moves, and the old check asked the wrong one.
- Pets are saved with the ship. A pet aboard is written into the save file next to the crew's things and is still there after quitting and coming back. Being fired clears them, as it clears everything else.
- Fixed: delivered pets arriving in a random colour. With DeviantEnemies installed, Maneaters spawned by this mod — a shop delivery, a pet rebuilt after changing form, a pet returning from a flight — could be rolled as deviants, which repaints them and inverts their growth so that rocking one turns it into the monster. They are now kept out of that roll entirely. Taming a wild deviant takes the inverted growth off it as well; it keeps the colours it was found in.
- Remnants integration. The whistle and the carrier can be found on moons as a previous crew's gear and behave exactly like the ones from the store — mods like that one register a copy of an item, which this mod now recognises as its own. The "Tamed Maneater" order is deliberately kept out of it: it is an order with rules about who may own a pet, not something to find in a corridor.
1.0.0
First public release.
- Tame the Maneater. It has to pick you as its mother, then you need any two of three — feed it, hold it for a minute, rock it quiet once — and finally rock it quiet outside the facility, which vanilla never allows. One pet per player, four per lobby by default.
- Two forms. The baby follows and plays; the monster fights other creatures for its owner and never targets them. The monster changes back by shedding its skin, with the baby walking out from under it.
- Training whistle (shop, 30). A short blast changes the form — the baby has to be fed, and the change spends the meal. A long blast switches between staying close and roaming within sight. It commands its owner's pet only.
- Mother's carrier (shop, 120). Carry the baby in it, or strap it to the monster's back as a
pack. The bag ships with its own texture, built into the mod; a repainted one can be dropped
into a
customfolder. - Dog house. Press E on the vanilla dog house to send your pet in or call it out. Nothing reaches it inside, and it calms down while it waits.
- Pets fly with the ship. A pet on the ship or in the dog house at takeoff lands with you on the next moon, with its colour and state. One left on the moon is gone for good, and its owner is told so on screen.
- Toys. Pets chase a laser pointer's dot; the baby fetches a kicked football back to you.
- Spray paint dyes the whole pet, and the colour survives changing form and flying.
- Tamed Maneater in the shop (900). Delivered by the dropship, fed and tamed to whoever ordered it. The terminal refuses the order before charging anything if you already have a pet, the crew is at its limit, or more than one is ordered.
- Weather. Lightning only strikes a pet that has eaten something metal; a pet on the ship ignores quicksand.
- Host-authoritative multiplayer. The host runs taming, commands, combat, the dog house, deliveries and persistence, and checks who is asking before acting on any request. Taming thresholds, the pet limit, every price and what the shop sells are the host's on every machine, so a config file gives nobody an edge. Late joiners are sent the full state.
- Items follow vanilla's ship rules. A whistle or carrier left on the moon — including one a creature carried out — is removed at the end of the round like any other item.
- Integrations: Imperium, MonstersGordion, FairAI, StarlancerAIFix, NavMeshInCompanyRedux, PathfindingLagFix, PathfindingLib, LethalConfig, RuntimeIcons, GeneralImprovements.
