Tired of dropping carrots on the ground for your boars, only to pick them all back up the moment you walk past? Build a feeding trough, fill its 6 slots, and hungry tamed animals nearby come and eat from it on their own.
How it works
- Build it: hammer, Furniture tab, near a workbench. It is a small container with 6 slots, about the size of the game's wood chest but lower, so hens can reach inside.
- Fill it: open it like a chest and put food in. The food shows on the straw, and everyone sees what is left.
- They come and eat: a hungry tamed animal within 15 m walks to the trough, stands against its edge and eats one item, with the game's own eating animation and sounds.
- Same rules as food on the ground: one meal keeps an animal fed for about 10 minutes, and a fed animal can breed. Food lying on the ground is still eaten first.
- Nothing on the ground: the food stays in the trough, so walking by never picks it up.
- Each animal eats its own food, the same as in the base game:
| Animal | Food |
|---|---|
| Boar | Carrots, turnips, onions, mushrooms, raspberries, blueberries |
| Hen | Seeds (carrot, turnip, onion, beech, birch), barley, dandelions |
| Wolf | Raw meat, deer meat, lox meat, neck tails, raw fish, chicken meat, sausages |
| Lox | Barley, cloudberries, flax |
Other tameable animals, including those from the newer biomes, eat from the trough what they eat in the game.
Five models

| Model | Size | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Plank feeding trough | 140 × 76 cm, 44 cm high | 10 wood |
| Hollowed log trough | 145 × 58 cm, 43 cm high | 6 wood, 2 core wood |
| Hooped feeding tub | 90 cm across, 40 cm high | 8 wood, 4 resin |
| Feed and water trough | 150 × 76 cm, 44 cm high | 12 wood, 2 resin |
| Stone feeding trough | 140 × 74 cm, 42 cm high | 12 stone, 2 wood |
They all work the same way. The water in the feed and water trough is decorative: animals never get thirsty in Valheim.

- sanglier : carottes, navets, oignons, champignons, framboises, myrtilles ;
- poule : graines, orge, pissenlits ;
- loup : viandes crues et poisson ;
- lox : orge, mûres des nuages, lin ;
- mangeoire en planches (10 bois) ;
- auge en tronc creusé (6 bois, 2 bois de cœur) ;
- baquet cerclé (8 bois, 4 résine) ;
- mangeoire et abreuvoir (12 bois, 2 résine), dont l'eau est décorative car les animaux n'ont jamais soif dans Valheim ;
- auge en pierre (12 pierres, 2 bois).
