Kingers Feast
A personal cooking overhaul built for two players - try it if you like, no support. 550+ Nordic ingredients and dishes, meads, kitchen stations, fruit-wood building, new animals and a wandering skald.Kinger's Feast
A cooking and brewing overhaul for Valheim – from the first wild leek in the Meadows to the Yule table in the Deep North.
A personal mod. I build Kinger's Feast for my partner and me to play together, so it changes often – sometimes daily – and comes without support. You are welcome to try it: start a new world, keep backups, and know that removing it from a world takes its items with it.
AI usage. Made with Claude, Anthropic's AI model, under my direction: I decide what goes in and how it should play, Claude writes the code. Some of the sounds were made with Suno or ElevenLabs. Every version goes through an automated in-game world test of several hundred checks and through our own co-op play before it is released.
Features
- 550+ new items: wild herbs, mushrooms, berries, fruit trees, nuts, roots, fish dishes, breads, pies, sauces, jams, soups and stews for every biome, plus extra drops from boars, deer, necks, bears, wolves, lox, serpents, hares, moose, seals and frost trolls.
- Over 50 meads in tiers around the vanilla meads: carry weight, speed, wet immunity, trophy luck, fishing, regeneration, resistances, skills and more. Meads are drunk like vanilla meads (no food slot), and only one mead per family is active at a time.
- New stations and tools: a clay oven for early roasting, drying and baking (unlocked by your first hazelnuts), a hand quern for grinding meal, flour, spice and salt, and a seed pouch to plant berry bushes and fruit trees anywhere – they bear again after every harvest. Their falling logs, split logs and stumps are tinted to match each fruit tree.
- Logical cooking: doughs at the food preparation table and then into the oven, soups in the cauldron, meat and fish on the spit, mead bases in the mead ketill and then the fermenter.
- Cookbook stand: build it at a workbench, search by dish, ingredient or station, and see what a recipe makes, where it is made, and what goes into it. Cooking, milling and fermenting conversions are included, as are mead effects.
- Smokehouse and drying rack: a small thatched smokehouse smokes six pieces of meat or fish at once over a slow wood fire – nothing burns, and bacon, smoked venison, böckling and varmrökt lax come out as two pieces instead of one. The drying rack (a northern hjell) needs no fire: stockfish, dried meat, fruit, mushrooms and malt dry on it by themselves, as long as no rain falls on it. Both show what hangs on them.
- The sea: mine a Leviathan for salt, barnacle meat, kelp, sea cucumbers and the rare Leviathan pearl. Every vanilla fish has its own dish – including Böckling, Inlagd sill and Surströmming.
- Feasts for every biome, placed with the serving tray, plus seasonal ones: Julbord (December), Midsommarbord (June) and Kräftskiva (August).
- Weather and night: wild plants grow back with the sky above them. Mushrooms, moss and marsh plants shoot up in rain and mist; berries, nuts, fruit and meadow herbs ripen in the sun; frost numbs all but the plants of the mountains and the far north. Crayfish and the glowing moss of the Mistlands show themselves only at night. Look at a picked plant to see what it is waiting for.
- Hideouts and finds: some plants only grow against tree trunks, at the foot of trees or beside rocks. Crypts and caves hold pickable finds, world chests carry a little of the mod's food, and there are forager's caches and magpie nests to discover.
- Visible wild finds: small custom loose items and pickable models are enlarged to at least 0.3 m across; larger models keep their original size.
- Lucky finds: in every biome, one in fifty harvests or so of certain wild plants and fruit trees yields something the gods have touched – Idun's golden apple, an elf-ring cep, Sif's gold among the rye. Eaten raw, it is as good as the best food of the next land and lasts 40 minutes. It cannot be planted, cooked or found in chests.
- Three new animals: the pale, spotted tryffelsvin of the Meadows and the Black Forest leaves you alone unless you strike it – tamed, fed and kept near trees it digs up summer truffles. The shy tjäder (capercaillie) of the Black Forest hides ground nests under firs and pines and lays eggs once tamed. The white snöhare of the Mountains is faster than you are; its pelts make a cloak against the chill of the night.
- Varietal honey: five hives that only thrive in their own biome, each with its own honey. The strong meads ask for it.
- Hildir takes cooking requests and then sells spices from the far south, kitchen wear and feast clothes. Haldor sells a chef's hat (Cooking +20) once you know your way around a cauldron.
- Secret recipes: the best dishes and meads are learned from recipe scrolls – found in chests, bought, earned or taken from the great bosses.
- Kitchen decor with comfort: drying herbs, a leek braid, strings of sausages, a smoked ham, a copper pot and a spice shelf.
- Legendary tools: Fellir, the felling axe, and Njord's rod.
- Deep-forged tools: a flametal and a bloodgold pickaxe and felling axe. The black forge can draw these four out again and again, up to level 50 – each level costs more than the last and gives a harder, lighter swing and +0.10 to its loot multiplier (+10 percentage points per level; up to ×6 ore and wood for flametal and ×6.15 for bloodgold). From level 10 the picks shatter the rock around the blow. Felling axes start hitting nearby tree trunks at quality 2 (0.2 m radius); radius grows by 0.2 m per quality up to 4 m, while the total tree limit rises from two at quality 2 to five at quality 50. Nearby trees take half damage; buildings, players and creatures are excluded. Ordinary pickaxes also gain a small vein-shattering radius with each quality level (0.3 m per level above quality 1; up to eight nearby fragments).
- Refining without the gamble: by default, every refinement at the Forge of Potential succeeds – nothing shatters any more. Instead each level past the item's normal maximum asks for more idols: one for the first, then two, four, six, eight … Set
Forge of Potential > Vanillain the BepInEx configuration to restore vanilla chances, costs and breakage rules. Haldor sells every kind of idol you have found (50 coins per tier), the skald now and then gives one, and a visiting dvergr always brings one. - Bastu: a sauna stove – hot stones over a wood fire, without the smoke. Heat it inside walls and under a roof and sweat next to it for a while: you leave warm, with stamina and eitr coming back twice as fast for 10 minutes.
- A wandering skald: now and then, at dusk, a skald sits down at the fire of your homestead and wishes for one dish – something you can already cook, or a dish of the land you live in, but always from ingredients you have already found. What lies in your bag or the chests by the fire he asks for more often, and if you talk to him he tells you what the dish is made of and where it is cooked. Look at him and press the dish's hotbar key to hand it over: he pays with a small gift, a secret recipe scroll or a song that lifts everyone at the fire for a while. Leave him hungry and he is gone by sunrise, a little rueful. He never fights; strike him and all you get is a puff of smoke.
- A herb-wife sometimes comes instead of the skald: she buys what grows wild – herbs, mushrooms, berries, nuts, roots, fruit – until her purse is empty, three favourites at double price. For every 25 coins she adds something from her basket: plants from other lands, now and then a lucky find, or one of her remedies – wound salve, herb-sight drops that mark wild plants on the map, glow salve to shine without a torch. Herb-sight can also be brewed at a Mistlands-level cauldron from 4 glowing moss, 2 magecaps, 2 royal jelly and 2 sap. Her shop opens the familiar trader menu with eight random, discovered Kochmod goods up to the homestead's biome tier.
- Bone meal: one item advances a planted seedling or young fruit tree by 25% of its full growing time. The existing three-item fertilizer use still makes picked bushes and fruit trees bear again.
- Craft from nearby chests: by default, building, crafting and upgrading can use materials from accessible containers within 10 m, alongside the items in your inventory. The ingredient counter includes nearby storage, and crafting is disabled if the combined quantity is short. The radius is configurable from 1–50 m. This feature is built in and does not require AzuCraftyBoxes. Set
Crafting > AusKistenCraftento false to restore vanilla crafting, or changeCrafting > Kistenradiusto adjust the range. - Seasonings from the quern (wild leek, meadow herbs, juniper, king's spices): carry one and every meal takes a pinch and lasts a third longer.
- Hugin explains every new thing once, just like his vanilla tips.
- Many small Nordic easter eggs.
Installation
Use a mod manager (Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman):
- Install Kinger's Feast – the mod manager brings BepInExPack_Valheim and Jotunn along.
- Start the game modded. Wild plants, bushes, fruit trees, nests and caches only appear in areas that have never been explored, so start a new world or travel to new land.
Manual: copy plugins/Kochmod.dll into BepInEx/plugins/.
Multiplayer
Every player and the server (dedicated or the hosting player) need the same Kinger's Feast version. Jotunn checks this when you connect.
