ValheimNet Villagers
WORK IN PROGRESS. Living Viking villagers, AI voices and chat, and bosses, Hildir bosses and humanoid monsters that trash-talk you and answer your open mic. Made for the ValheimNet server.ValheimNet Villagers
WORK IN PROGRESS. Built for the private ValheimNet server. Expect rough edges, changing configs and frequent updates. Back up your worlds.
Features
- Villagers: summon Viking villagers who live in your village, take jobs (farming, storage, defense), sleep, and remember each other.
- Talking villagers: chat with villagers in normal chat or by voice; they answer in character (AI when available, canned lines otherwise).
- Boss trash talk: every boss taunts you through the fight with its own lore-based voice and answers what you say.
- Monster trash talk: greydwarfs, greylings, trolls (with the mind of a cranky five-year-old), skeletons, draugr, fulings, dvergr, cultists, seekers, charred and Deep North jotuns heckle you on aggro, hits, kills, low HP, fleeing and death, and answer back. Hildir's quest bosses (Brenna, Geirrhafa, Zil and Thungr) have their own personas.
- Profanity toggle: clean by default;
AllowProfanityin[Monsters]unlocks the foul-mouthed lines. Slurs are always filtered. - Open mic: press Insert to toggle a hands-free mic; what you say is transcribed and said in chat, and nearby villagers, bosses and monsters reply.
- Trophy heads on your walls banter with you.
- Main menu badge shows the ValheimNet version.
Server
Designed for the ValheimNet dedicated server (port 30001). The server needs the same mods; ask the server host for the address and password. Most AI features (LLM replies, Whisper speech-to-text, voices) run on the server host's desk AI (KoboldCpp); without it everything falls back to canned lines.
Install
- Install ValheimNet_Villagers with r2modman (or the Thunderstore app). Dependencies install automatically.
- Press Start modded. That's it.
Voices
Nothing extra to install. The server makes each voice line with its effects and sends it to you; your game just plays it.
- Open mic: just talk (no push-to-talk). Your game listens for speech, the server turns it into text, and whoever is near answers. Insert toggles it; the microphone is only used while it is on. Turn it off for good with
[OpenMic] Enabled = false.
Commands (server admins)
vv_spawn <name> [count] spawn creatures by friendly name (troll, greyling, brenna, zil...), vn_status, vn_mtaunt <family> <event>, vn_reload.
Speakers vs headset
On speakers set MuteDuringPlayback = true under [OpenMic] in the Villagers.Net config file (BepInEx/config/*villagers.net.cfg) so the mic ignores the game's voices.
