2R4R : A Foreword

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read our wiki. I trust that you are reading this page first, as it is intentionally placed at the top.

2R4R is an experimental balance mod. It makes some changes that some people might not agree with, including you, and that's OK. It's not made to satisfy everyone, or not nearly most people, but rather it is made with love to spin Risk of Rain 2 into an entirely new experience. So, before you get your feathers ruffled, ask yourself if we would intentionally make the game worse in our own vision -- Of course not. But we recognize that balance and design is a matter of taste. Rather than forcing everyone to believe that our way is the best, we simply want to generate a discussion about balance in Risk of Rain 2.

Likewise, I request that anyone with the curiosity to read our wiki to approach it with an open mind.

2R4R is a very "big picture" balance mod; the changes contained within are holistic in intention, and might affect the game in ways you might not expect. For those who appreciate the effort put within 2R4R but not the full vision, we try to offer modularity where it is available, such as in the plethora of standalone modules which compose 2R4R. We tried our best to make these modules compatible with other mods and fit nicely into the base game balance.

On the other side of the coin however, I will warn, the full 2R4R experience is likely to cause friction with other mods... especially those that add large amounts of content designed for a vanilla-style balance... especially those that intend to enhance the vanilla balance, such as by adding more content to make the game harder. We don't want this to mean that 2R4R is incompatible with your favorite content mod, but rather that using these mods together might cause gameplay issues that are neither mods' fault. Configuration can always help, and we'll be happy to work you through it.

Lastly...

2R4R is a very large mod made by a very small team. I'll never consider it truly finished, and even our older changes can be in need of retouching. To an even greater extent, our wiki: The wiki may not be complete, and it may not always be up to date - the correct information will always be in the code and in game. I am approaching the wiki with this in mind; use it as a tool to reference the scope of some of our changes, not for absolute truth. And please, please be patient with me while I work hard to fill out the wiki... I am but a poor scrungly little bird with love and autism in my heart.

And, once again, thank you for your curiosity and support of 2R4R. Before you continue reading, I recommend also reading the guide to the wiki, which has some information on finding what you need. Cheers!
