Toasty Starter Pack
An expansion on Toasty QoL that aims to cover as many bugfixing and quality of life bases as possible for laying the foundations of your own modpack. This pack does contain Server-Side mods, meaning any and all multiplayer teammates will need the same modlist to ensure it functions correctly.
Comes with ToastyQoL's premade configs, plus others for ease of use.
Tips for Building Your Own Modpack
- Whatever you choose to install, read them carefully to help avoid redundancies and incompatibilities between your mods.
- Familiarize yourself with the Config edit menus of your mod manager of choice. Often, mods are made to be very customizeable for the user to tailor it to their preference, or to help iron out compat issues with other mods.
- Avoid Deprecated mods. These are marked as such on Thunderstore with a giant red banner at the top. Deprecated means that the mod is explicitly broken/out of date, no longer planned on being updated, or being updated by someone else now. They may work, but are not guaranteed to. Test them yourself if you want to use them and are checking if they still function. If an up to date mod installs a dependency that is Deprecated, that possibly means it works with everything installed. However, if you run into any issues, Deprecated mods are the first things you should look at as a possible cause.
- Try and limit your modlist as much as you can. Every mod loaded makes the game take longer to boot up, and this can be even worse if you run the game on older or weaker hardware.
- Don't be afraid to customize general purpose modpacks like this and others to suit your taste. Some modpacks are very much meant to be kept exactly as they were published, but this is not one of them. Don't like a feature a mod here provides? Just uninstall Toasty Starter Pack and the mod you want to remove. You'll keep everything else you have installed and intact.
- Share your modpacks with friends by selecting "Settings" -> "Profile" -> "Export Profile as Code" in r2modman, or "Export" -> "Profile as Code" in Gale. This gives you an ID you can send along to your friends to automatically copy your exact modlist, configs and all. Import it by creating a new profile, and selecting "Import/Update" to paste in the code, and letting everything download. Sharing modlists this way ensures everyone is running the exact same setup, and mitigates the chance of desync playing in co-op.
WARNING: If you get any warnings that a mod you want to uninstall is a dependency of other mods, this is likely to cause problems, avoid doing this unless you plan to also uninstall whatever depends on it as well.
Copy-Pasted Modding Issues Quick Self-Diagnosis:
- If you are playing on the most recent game version, make sure your mods are up to date at all times. There are rare cases where updates can cause issues, but it is much more commonly the fault of old mod versions.
- Download Notepad++ (You can use regular notepad, it's just uglier)
- Open your "LogOutput.log" or "PlayerLog.log" found in the Bepinex folder of your profile, accessible through your modmanager of choice
- Press Ctrl + F and search "stack trace" (Can also use bepinex console search); Remove the first mod that are mentioned in these stack traces. Repeat this process and you may find the culprit. You can also search "RoR2Application.onLoad" in a similar manner.
Take note that this method is not 100% precise, and if you still need help or want to report a bug, reach out in the #tech-support channel In the Risk of Rain 2 Modding Discord
Credits
- anartoast - Original creator of the ToastyPerformance modpack
- HIFU - Curating much of this modlist
- PlNK - Doing the other 1% of the work putting the pack together, mod icon
- BIG thanks to score, chinchi, Loadie and Moffein for helping with info for this readme and too many other things to list.
- And a special thanks for the modders that made all the mods in this pack. Risk of Rain would be a much more annoying game to mod and play without their work.
