Commentary
Vanilla gives individual enemies the capability to see through fog, but no enemies take advantage of that feature, normally.
I think it fits Old Birds well, with their 100,000 lumen searchlights. It also helps to differentiate them a bit from Forest Keepers, which are often far more of a threat to player safety.
(Note: This makes foggy Embrion extra scary!)
Regarding mech riding, it was a cool but unfortunately short-lived feature, due to causing some crazy buggy behavior with players. Since then, we've discovered the cause of the bug, but this feature has yet to see the light of day again in vanilla... In the meantime, mods work!
