Enemies/Maneater

Settings | Description |
---|---|
Increase Power Level | Maneaters take up 3 power level instead of 2. |
Limit Growth | Maneaters are unable to cry or transform until at least one player has entered the building before. Landmines and spike traps no longer instantly transform Maneaters unless they have encountered at least one player before. |
Metabolism | Eating scrap permanently increases the amount of time a Maneater needs to cry before it transforms. (1 scrap = 33% longer, 2+ scrap = 2x as long) |
Limit Turn Speed | Maneaters make wider, slower turns when lunging at players. This makes it a lot easier to escape by running around sharp corners, such as the factory stair tile. |
Commentary
Maneaters are scary and awesome, but they are so powerful at area denial that it can be pretty frustrating to walk into the building only to find that it's already transformed, and blocking access to most of the map. The whole point is that the adult phase is punishment for failing to babysit it, right? Right?
Anyways, I've done my best to reduce the opportunity window that you will walk into the building at 10 AM and get massacred by an adult Maneater. Lethal Company is a game about overcoming adversity, even when the odds are stacked against you - so I didn't completely remove the possibility, but it was definitely too frequent in vanilla (especially on Offense) so I hope this makes it less frustratingly common.
(On that note, the extra time from digesting scrap is just meant as a consolation prize for the profit you lose out on, and not intended to be used as a means of solving that problem.)
I've increased power level from 2 to 3, because in its adult phase, Maneaters act a little bit like a hybrid of the thumper and the bracken, both of which are staple 3-power enemies. This also helps to reduce external stressors during the babysitting phase, since there will be less slots for other monsters to occupy.
The last change I found necessary was nerfing their lunge attack - having an enemy cover so much ground so fast while also instantly killing players on contact is frightening enough. But it feels pretty bad that they can also perfectly follow around corners and up/down stairs; once it lunges at you once, it's very likely you are dead with no means of counterplay, and that's just not fun. Beware that this limitation does not apply if the Maneater is outside, because outdoor Maneaters basically get superpowers anyway. Good luck!
