Odins Drunk Cam
Drink mead and the world sways a little. Camera-only and client-side, with an intensity slider, a cap and an off key for queasy vikings. From the makers of Odin's Free Refills and Odin's Almanac.Odin's Drunk Cam
Drink a mead and the world starts to lean a little. Drink three and the horizon can't make up its mind. As the meads wear off, the sway eases off with them, until you're steady on your feet again.
- The camera rolls, tips and drifts while a mead is active, and the view slowly "breathes" wider and narrower.
- Each extra active mead makes it stronger, up to a cap you set.
- A soft vignette darkens the edges of the screen (optional).
- It fades in and out smoothly, never with a jolt.
Visual only, client-side only
This mod changes only your own camera and screen effects. It does not change movement, aiming, combat, damage, crits, stamina or any other gameplay value.
- Where you aim, what you hit and what you pick up are exactly the same as sober. The sway is added after the game has placed the camera, and removed again before the next frame, so the game always aims from the sober camera.
- No new items, prefabs, network messages or world data.
- Only you need it. Works in single-player, on dedicated servers and with friends who don't have it. Other players can't see it, because it only moves your own camera.
Feeling queasy?
Some people get motion sick from camera sway, so the sway stays slow rather than jittery. It also gives you three ways to tone it down:
- F4 switches the whole effect off immediately, with no fade-out. Press it again to switch it back on. The choice is saved.
Intensityscales how much each mead sways the camera.MaxIntensitycaps the sway, however many meads you've had.
The sway also gets out of the way on its own while the map, inventory, menus, chat or console are open, while the hammer or another build tool is out, during cutscenes and the intro, while sleeping, and after death.
Which drinks count
Every mead in Valheim comes out of a fermenter, so the mod treats the effect of anything a fermenter produces as a mead. Meads from other mods that use the fermenter count too. Items whose name starts with "Mead" are included as well. Food, feasts and other consumables don't count.
Configuration
Settings live in BepInEx/config/hevyh2o.valheim.odinsdrunkcam.cfg. If you have
a Configuration Manager mod installed, you can also change them in game (usually
F1). This mod doesn't need one.
| Setting | Default | Controls |
|---|---|---|
Enabled |
true | Master switch. F4 flips this. |
ToggleKey |
F4 | The quick-off key. Rebindable in game through Configuration Manager. |
Intensity |
1 | How much each mead sways the camera, 0 to 3. |
MaxIntensity |
1 | Hard cap on the effect, 0 to 2. At 1 the roll reaches about 18°, at 2 about 36°. |
Vignette |
true | Darken the screen edges while drunk. |
At the default settings, one mead gives a clear sway, two a strong one, and three reach the cap.
Things to know
- If you've turned the vignette off, the mod also stops touching the game's post-processing. When you sober up, the game's own vignette setting is put back exactly as it was.
- Other camera mods (first-person, free camera and so on) should still work, since the sway is added on top of wherever the camera ends up. In free-fly mode the mod does nothing.
