Odins Raven Returns
After you die, Odin sends a raven to guard your grave. Press H to see where it is, what killed you, what's in it, and what's still waiting there. From the makers of Odin's Free Refills, Wanted Posters and Almanac.Odin's Raven Returns
You died. It happens. Odin noticed, sighed, and sent a raven to sit on your grave until you come back for your things.
The raven perches on your tombstone, turns to watch you, and caws every so often once you're within about 120 metres: faint at first, louder as you get closer, so you can follow the sound home. A soft blue glow marks the spot at night.
Press H (or just respawn, and it opens by itself) for the raven's report:
- Where: how far, which compass direction, whether it's ahead of you or behind, and which biome it's in
- Died: how long ago, on which day, and what killed you ("Killed by a Troll (1 star)", "Drowned", "Flattened by a falling tree")
- Holds: how many items, their total weight, your coins, and the notable gear worth going back for
- Carry: whether it'll all fit in your pack, or how far over your limit you'll be
- Nearby: whether anything hostile is still hanging around the grave
- A remark from Odin, because he has opinions, and more of them than usual
Several graves? The report lists them newest first, each with its own raven.
"Your belongings are where you left them. So, presumably, is whatever killed you."
How it works
Everything comes from the game's own tombstone: who owns it, when it was dug, and what's inside. Nearby graves are read live, so the report keeps up as you loot. The only thing the tombstone doesn't remember is what killed you, so the raven writes that down when you die and keeps the note in your character's save.
"Hostile" is decided the same way as in Odin's Free Refills: the game itself says whether each creature is your enemy, so tames and passive wildlife are ignored and modded creatures follow the same rules.
The raven is Hugin, the one from the game's own tutorials, with his own animations and caw. He's purely visual, and only you can see him.
Configuration
Settings live in BepInEx/config/hevyh2o.valheim.odinsravenreturns.cfg. If you
have a Configuration Manager mod installed, you can also change them in game
(usually F1); this mod doesn't need one.

Things to know
- Your graves only. The raven only reports on graves belonging to the character you're playing, in the world you're in.
- Why H and not G? G opens the game's radial menu. Change
ShowKeyif H is taken by another mod. - Far away in multiplayer. Your game only knows about objects near you, so for a distant grave the raven reports from its notes: where it is, and what was in it when you died. It can't see what's near a grave that far away, and says so. Get closer and the report goes live.
- Graves from before the mod. The raven still finds them (in single-player, anywhere; in multiplayer, when you're nearby), but it wasn't there when you died, so it can't say what killed you.
- Changes aren't instant. Once you empty a grave, the raven leaves in a puff of feathers and the report drops it a few seconds later.
- Your eyes only. The report, the raven and the glow are all drawn on your screen. Works in single-player and multiplayer, and nobody else needs the mod.
- Hidden when you're busy. No report while your inventory, map, menu or chat is open, or when the HUD is hidden.

Odin's Free Refills: no stamina costs while the coast is clear. The raven tells you when it's clear at the grave; the refills make the run back free.
Odin's Wanted Posters: look at a creature and press E to see its health, weaknesses and drops. Read the poster on whatever killed you before you go back for round two.
Odin's Almanac: press K for a forecast of the next weather changes in your biome. A corpse run is no fun in a thunderstorm.
Odin's Saga: sleep or log out and Odin reads you the saga of your day; press J for a lifetime of deeds. Every death goes in the saga. The raven just makes sure you get your things back.
Odin's Hearth: press N at home to see your comfort level, what's counting, and the cheapest piece to build next. Get Rested again before the corpse run. Odin insists.
Odin's Pantry: press P to see your foods, what you could cook right now, and Odin's best three- food pick for your biome. Eat a proper meal before you go back. Odin insists on that too.
Odin's Drunk Cam: drink a mead and the world sways; the more meads, the more it sways. Purely visual, with an intensity slider and an off key. Maybe sober up before the corpse run.
Odin's Weapon Memories: every weapon remembers what it has killed and earns a name from how it was used, like Storied Frost Greataxe of the Troll's Bane. Die holding it, and it remembers that too.
