Odins Stone Whispers
Odin whispers when a Rock or Mysterious Rock is near. Press 9 and he turns your gaze to it, with the distance on screen. Client-side. From the makers of Odin's Free Refills and Odin's Almanac.Odin's Stone Whispers
Somewhere out there, a Rock ("It's a stone.") or a Mysterious Rock is waiting to be picked up. Odin knows.
When a wild Mysterious Rock is within 120 m of you, a cryptic line from Odin fades
in just above the middle of your screen ("Something mysterious is in the air...",
"Not every rock is only a rock..."), drifts slowly upward and fades away near the
top. If you like, a short gust of the game's own wind can blow with it (WindGust).
Odin never says where the rock is. You only know it's close. Hunt for it yourself, or press 9 and Odin keeps turning your gaze toward the nearest rock until you find it.
- After a whisper, Odin waits 5 minutes before the next (
FrequencyMinutes, up to 30). TurnFrequencyCheckoff and he keeps whispering for as long as you're near a rock. - Sixteen built-in lines, never the same one twice in a row, or write your own.
- The line waits while you're in a menu, on the map or dead, and shows once you're back.
- Rocks count before they're drawn on screen, so a rock behind a hill still counts.
Odin's gaze (9)
Press 9 to switch rock seeking on. Your view swings round, smoothly, until the
crosshair points at the nearest Mysterious Rock anywhere in the area the game has loaded
around you (this isn't limited to RangeMeters). Then it does it again every 10 seconds,
so you can walk toward the rock and get nudged back on course. Press 9 again to stop.
- If there's no rock around when you switch it on, Odin tells you the stones are silent. Seeking stays on and picks one up as soon as one comes into the loaded area.
- A deliberate mouse movement takes back control of that turn; small hand jitter while walking does not.
- While seeking, a line near the top of the screen shows how far away the nearest rock is, updated every second, or says there's no stone in reach.
- A note in the top-left corner says when seeking switches on or off.
Both keys (LocateKey 9, and the optional test key PreviewKey, unbound by default) and the repeat time (LocateRepeatSeconds)
can be changed in game through Configuration Manager (F1), under Keys.
Client-side only
Only you need it. It reads what the game already knows about the area around you and changes nothing in the world: no new items, no network messages, no world data. Works in single-player, on dedicated servers and with friends who don't have it.
Configuration
Settings live in BepInEx/config/hevyh2o.valheim.odinsstonewhispers.cfg. If you have

Things to know
- The game only keeps track of the area loaded around you. With default game settings
that reaches past 120 m, but very large
RangeMetersvalues stop helping at some point. - Rocks waiting to be picked up and rocks lying loose on the ground both count. Rocks
placed as pets only count with
CountPlacedRocks.
