Tesla Coils

Tesla Coil

Tesla Coils are a custom hazard added by Welcome to Ooblterra.

Description

A Tesla Coil is a short stump with two glowing orbs embedded within; one yellow, and one indigo. This stump is orbited by three rings, constantly spinning, and it emits a static noise when up close. When a player enters proximity, the Tesla Coil will affect any electronics the player has in their inventory or active hand. "Anything that can go off, will go off."

On the ship radar, Tesla Coils will appear as a hollow, spinning octagon, and will have a terminal input code associated.

Strategy

Tesla Coils will affect the following equipment if held or pocketed by a player:

  • Walkie-Talkie (will be switched off)
  • Flashlight/Pro-Flashlight (will be switched off)
  • Boombox (will be switched off)
  • Zap Gun (If in use, will be automatically disabled, as if the player let go of the trigger)
  • Radar-Booster (Will be switched off)
  • Shotgun (Will fire automatically if the safety is off)

Tesla Coils are mostly harmless, and will simply disable the player's equipment. This can make it harder to see, so players should pay more attention for Baby Lurker Eggs, as they often spawn nearby. Notably, Tesla Coils will set off any shotguns with their safety disabled; for this reason, if one must walk past them with a shotgun, it is recommended to keep the safety on while you do so. If a player is talking into a Walkie-Talkie when entering a Tesla Coil's range, other players listening on the Walkie-Talkie will hear death static.

Keep away from Tesla Coils if being attacked by an Oobl Ghost; they will disable your walkie and prevent you from dissipating it. If you must enter one's range during an attack, get outside of it as soon as possible; Walkies and Flashlights disabled by the Tesla Coil will automatically re-enable when their range is exited. Players should also keep away from Tesla Coils if attempting to lead a Gallenarma via boombox, since they will enrage immediately if the music stops.

Tesla Coils may also be disabled via the terminal. They will stop glowing, and their rings will drop to the ground. Tesla Coils will remain disabled for 15 seconds.
